You can update the Fire TV Stick as the download process works in the background. Amazon automatically installs the latest patch when you start the Fire TV Stick. But there may be times when you struggle to update your Fire TV Stick properly. There are many reasons for this behavior. It can be a lack of bandwidth, insufficient storage space, server-side issues, and more. We will go through all the troubleshooting options to fix the problem in this post.
1. Check your Internet connection
Streaming services consume most of the internet bandwidth. If your internet connection is slow or intermittent, you will experience constant update problems, leading to an installation problem. Then you will need to test your internet connection using the Internet Speed Test. If connecting to the internet isn’t the problem, let’s move on to the next solution.
2. Restart the Fire TV Stick
There may be a small glitch on the streaming device. And just like other problems with the Fire TV Stick, restarting it can help bring it back to normal.
Go to Settings> My Fire TV> Restart and select it to restart the Fire TV Stick.
Alternatively, you can also easily restart the Fire TV Stick using the remote. Press and hold the Select button (the middle round button) and the Play / Pause button at the same time for about 5 seconds.
If the remote is faulty or not working, you can also unplug the Fire TV Stick from the power source and plug it back in. After rebooting, play some video content on the Fire TV Stick and check if the update issue is fixed or not.
3. Insufficient device memory
The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K comes with 8GB of built-in storage, of which a fraction is already consumed by apps and a portion reserved for the operating system. It’s not exactly a storage powerhouse, and it can be relatively easy to fill the space. If you’re running out of Fire TV Stick storage space, it may cause update issues. You can free up storage space by uninstalling irrelevant apps from your device.
Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Turn on the Fire TV Stick.
Step 2: Select Settings in the top menu (you may need to scroll right to get to this option).
Step 3: In Settings, press the Down button on the remote, then scroll and select Applications.
Step 4: In the Applications menu, select Manage installed applications. When you select this item, you will be able to see how much internal storage you have used and how much you have available.
Step 5: Select Manage installed applications.
Step 6: Scroll through the list of apps installed on your device to find the one you want to uninstall.
Step 7: Select the irrelevant app and then select Uninstall from the following menu.
Step 8- The Fire TV Stick will ask you to confirm the decision. Click Uninstall and the app will be removed from your device.
Fire TV Stick Overheating
Your Fire TV Stick is continuously plugged into the charger and streams video whenever the TV is on. If you live in a country where the average temperature is higher and the climate is hot, it could overheat the streaming stick. In such cases, you may encounter update issues and glitches while general browsing the Fire OS.
You should unplug the Fire TV Stick and let it cool down.
5. Use VPN
If the announced update is not available in your country, you can try this trick. A good VPN will not only prevent your ISP from throttling speed but will help in several ways, such as safeguarding personal information from hackers, unblocking other apps, etc.
6. problems with Amazon servers
The black screen problem on Fire TV Stick could be due to problems with Amazon servers. Regardless of what trick you try, you won’t be able to get around the update problem. In such cases, you have no choice but to wait for the Amazon servers to function normally. Well, you’ll have to wait a day or two to let that happen and try again.
7. Disconnect the Fire TV Stick
You can unplug the Fire TV Stick and wait a few minutes. Reconnect the device to the TV using original accessories and try updating the Fire TV Stick again. Alternatively, you can restart the Wi-Fi modem to make sure this helps too.
