Discover the steps to activate the Google Maps speedometer on Android and then display the speed of the car while using the navigation on the phone screen.
After waiting a bit longer than we would have liked, Google Maps for Android finally includes a speedometer.
What until now was a unique feature of other navigation apps, which had not made its way through Google’s maps tool, something that had even led some third-party developers to create their own solutions, has now finally been added.
Platform users can now see how fast they are going in real-time, as well as the limit of the road they are traveling.
Activating Google Maps speedometer is very simple. What is more complicated is to find the option, because in all these years the application has increased its settings with many categories and sub-categories, so it can be a little difficult to find.
How to activate the Google Maps speedometer or odometer on the phone screen
The feature in question has started to arrive on Google Maps from version 10.18 of the application, so make sure you have an equal or higher version is the first step to activate the speedometer in Google Maps.
The first thing you need to do is open the menu on the left of Google Maps, by pressing the three-striped button you have at the top right or by sliding your finger from the left end of the screen to the center.
Once the menu is open, click on the Settings option to access the configuration.
So all you have to do is activate the corresponding option from the application settings. To do this, just follow these steps:
- Go to the “Navigation Settings” section.
- In the “Driving Options” section, activate the “Speedometer” option.
In this way, the next time you start a journey by car, Google Maps will show a bubble in the lower left part of the screen which will host the speed at which you are going and, if possible, right next to it will show the maximum speed allowed on the road.
Keep in mind that this utility does not work when using the navigation on foot or by bicycle.
