Acer Predator Helios 300 – Key Specs with Full Review

Acer Company is a Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics corporation deals with the manufacture of laptops and desktop PCs (subdivided into Clamshells, 2in1, convertibles and Chromebooks).

The Predator Helios 300 is one of their latest products with mouthwatering features. Acer Predator Helios 300 is an excellent VR-Ready gaming laptop at an average price. Note that there are different configurations for this product, but the one chosen by me for this review has the specifications below.

Acer Predator Helios 300 Key Features

  • Display – 15.6 inch FHD IPS non-touch 1920 x 1080 pixels resolutions
  • GPU – Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 +6GB video memory
  • Processor – up to 2.8GHZ core i7-7700HQ CPU
  • Memory – 16GB RAM; 256GB SSD
  • Operating System – Windows 10 64 bits Home
  • Connectivity/Ports:  Single USB 3.0, two USB 2.0, USB 3.1 Type C, HDMI, headphone, SD card reader, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet
  • Color – Black
  • Weight – less than 3kg
  • Size – 15.5 x 10.5 x 1.5 inches
  • Battery – 48-Wh lithium-ion battery
Design

Acer Predator Helios 300 is designed to be a gaming laptop that is slightly slimmer than other Predator series. The lid is made of aluminum with two red stripes showing Predator logo and at the top left corner is the Acer logo while the body is made of plastic. It has a complete keyboard with number-pads using red backlighting plus a black metal deck. The keyboard is quite comfortable for typing. The touchpad is large and gives goods response to Windows 10 gestures, swipes, and taps.

Acer Predator Helios 300 has no fingerprint scanners, but fingerprints can be easily seen on the black surface of its body.

The Predator’s AeroBlade-3D cooling fans are designed to transport heat efficiently from the case, so heat production is entirely reasonable under simple workloads but gets hotter with higher workloads. The cooling fan becomes noisy when subjected to enormous loads.

Display

Acer Predator Helios 300’s display screen is apparent but not so bright. The Predator’s Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 GPU plus 6GB RAM is very useful in the sense that it projects even high graphics demanding games effectively without lagging and lapses in frame rates.

Performance

The Predator’s 2.8GHz Intel Core i7700HQ processor is more than sufficient for multitasking without creating any unwanted glitches. Its battery runs for good six hours, unlike most gaming laptops that only last maximum of four hours, this is a good improvement from Acer.

Other Features
  • Audio – The speakers produce excellent sounds regarding its loudness and audio balance.
  • Camera/ Webcam – It has a 720p webcam which is very good and sharp, but its deficiency comes from its colour
  • Software/ Warranty – It comes with a PredatorSense application for monitoring of CPU and GPU speeds and fine-tuning cooling fan control for maximum performance. Acer issues the warranty for just two years.
  • Ports/ Connectivity – Acer Predator Helios 300 external ports are on the two sides and does not have optical drives. It has a total of four USB Ports and an SD-card reader slot with good transfer speed.
