Alcatel 1C Review – Full View 18:9 Aspect Ratio Entry-level Smartphone

Still in the spirit of Barcelona Mobile World Congress 2018, the smartphone to be reviewed at the moment is Alcatel 1C. The TCL branded smartphone is the second low-end smartphone alongside Alcatel 1X to be unveiled at this year’s edition of MWC. Unlike the other four devices launched at the mobile show, this device lacks the 4G LTE network connectivity. Users have to only make do with 2G and 3G network connectivity. Let’s get down to the full specs of the smartphone, shall we?

Design & Display

In terms of the design, the smartphone has a brushed aluminium body material which is so much different from the plastic material used in the other five unveiled smartphones. The rear of the device is well furnished and occupied by the fingerprint sensor, single camera, LED flash and Alcatel logo. On the other hand, the front of the device sports thick bezels at the top and the bottom. At the top bezel, the earpiece and camera are visible while the light sensor is laid under the screen in this same location. Dedicated buttons which are the volume and power buttons appear at the right side of the smartphone. It is worthy to note that the dimensions of this smartphone are 146.9 mm length, 70.6 mm width and 9.2 mm thickness. Also, the weight is average as it pegs 154 g.

The display area features a 5.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which uses a resolution of 480 x 960 pixels to control clarity. Also controlling the clarity is a pixel density of 203 PPI is in place. The screen-to-body ratio of the smartphone’s display is 70%, and its aspect ratio is 18:9.

Camera

Images from the rear are produced by an 8 MP camera with features such as auto focus, touch focus, CMOS sensor, HDR, panorama and face detection. A LED flash is also supported to brighten images taken in low light areas. In this same camera unit, the front camera has a 5 MP sensor for taking selfies.

CPU, OS & Storage

The MediaTek MT6580M functions as the chipset of the smartphone. Placed in its radar is the Quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU which clocks at a low 1.0 GHz speed. Although it us of the 32-bit architecture, it makes use of the 28 nm process technology while its GPU is the ARM Mali-400 MP2. Unlike the Android Oreo OS found in Alcatel 1X, the Alcatel 1C runs on the Android Nougat OS. Storage on the smartphone is taken care of by a 16 GB ROM which can be expanded to 32 GB with the aid of a MicroSD card. For multitasking, a 1 GB LPDDR3 RAM takes position in the smartphone.

Battery

A removable Li-Ion 2,460 mAh battery serves the duration on this device.
