Android 12 adds a health protection tool

Smartphones give us the benefit of always being connected, making them a vital tool in any emergency situation. Google is looking to capitalize on that for Android 12 by enhancing some of its most essential features.

A new section called Safety & emergency has been added to the settings menu, giving you quick access to important details and direct links to Pixel’s Personal Safety app.

This new menu creates space for all your personal information, including medical history, blood type, etc. You can also add emergency contacts to your emergency contact list. There’s also a Pixel-exclusive feature that lets your phone detect if you’ve been in a car accident. Crisis alerts will let you know about nearby natural disasters and public events in your area. Finally, you can also control your SOS settings in this new menu, allowing you to quickly call 911 just by clicking the power button five times.

It’s not yet clear if any or all of these settings will appear on phones when the stable Android 12 build launches later this year; it may depend on whatever safety features each manufacturer decides to include in the operating system.
