Let’s talk about- 5 Best Call Recorder Apps for Android
What is a backup?
A backup is a copy of the data (SMS, applications, contacts…) saved in an additional unit that will keep them safe from loss. For example, we recommend performing this procedure before installing a new ROM or any other process that puts the information on the device at risk.
1) How to Backup Android on your Google account
I could not start with other alternatives besides the native function offered by Google. The “Backup and restore” option is available in the smartphone’s Settings app (the name may vary slightly depending on the brand). There, make sure that Backup is enabled.
This tool allows you to back up data, apps and device settings to the cloud. The backup is performed periodically directly in Google Drive associated with the account active on the device. But beware- it is done only through a Wi-Fi connection and takes up space in the Drive archive.
This function backs up- contact data (stored in Google), Google Calendar events and settings, lists of known Wi-Fi networks and their passwords, wallpapers, GMail settings, Apps, screen settings (such as brightness and timeout), language and keyboard settings, date and time settings, and application settings and data not created by Google.
Pay attention to the last element- not all apps can be integrated with Google Backup, which means that data and settings may be lost. In case of doubt, it is advisable to contact the app developer (via the Google Play page) and ask if the data is included in the Android backup tool or, if not, how to save it.
2) How to do Android Backup of WhatsApp conversations, images and videos
Unfortunately, WhatsApp is one of these apps that does not integrate with Google’s automatic backup- by default, it only backs up local data (to the device itself), which is useless if you want to restore them to another device. It has an option to automatically back up data to Google Drive, but you must first activate it.
Open WhatsApp and click on the three dots in the upper left corner of the screen. Go to Settings> Conversations> Conversation Backup. Tap Back up to Google Drive and choose the frequency. In the Google account, choose the account that will be associated with the backup.
Choose whether the backup will be done only when it is connected to the Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and Cellular network (I highly recommend only Wi-Fi, for the amount of data). Select Include video if you want them to be part of the backup.
Now tap the Backup button at the top of the screen. Ready! When you reinstall WhatsApp, on the same or another device, you need to recognize the backup and select the restore during the initial configuration. An interesting detail- the WhatsApp backup does not count in the space of your Google Drive account.

3) How to backup apps
There are two methods that allow you to back up the apps on your Android device. The first one is very simple but you need an internet connection to restore all your apps. The second one is slightly more complex, but it has the advantage that it is not necessary to download all the apps from the Internet when recovery is necessary. The choice is yours. Below I will show you both methods.
First method
You can simply download all the apps from the Google Play Store. To do this, start the Play Store, go to the menu and select the item My apps and my games. On the page that opens, select the All option. You will be shown a list of all the apps you have previously installed on your smartphone and you can decide to install them manually on your new device.
Second method
As mentioned above, this Android backup method requires no Internet connection, saving bandwidth and time.
Here are the steps to take:
- Download the free ES File Manager app.
- Start the app and select the APP item on the main screen. All the apps installed on the device will be displayed.
- Keep your finger on an app and select the Select all item in the top bar. In this way, all installed apps will be selected.
- Select the backup option below. This will save an apk file (installation file) of all your apps in the device memory.
- Now connect your smartphone to your PC, go to the internal memory -> Backup -> Apps folder and copy all the app files to your computer. When it is necessary to restore the backup, transfer the application files and manually install them one by one.
Remember, this method does not save the data contained in the app. It only allows you to create an installation file that you can use later without downloading the app from the Internet.
4) How to Backup Photos on Google Photos
To back up all the photos and videos on your smartphone, open Google Photos by tapping on the three-line menu in the top left corner of the screen and Settings. Tap Back up and sync. Enable Backup and Sync. By default, Google Photos will back up photos and videos created with your smartphone’s camera. You can include additional folders in the Backup of device folders.
Under Upload size, I suggest you leave the quality loaded. Google Photos will apply compression to your photos (so that the files are smaller) but visually the difference in quality is almost nil. Furthermore, high-quality photos do not count against the space limit of your Google Drive.
On the same screen, I recommend disabling the backup options with cellular data and the Roaming option. Therefore, Google Photos will not consume your data plan. If you’re on a cellular network, go back to the main Google Photos screen and you’ll see a tab at the top of the screen that says “Backup”.
It will be replaced with the message Backup completed when everything is finished. You don’t need to stay on Google Photos while backing up, you can continue to use your smartphone normally. Stay connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Once the backup is finished, how about releasing a few GB of space on the phone? Touch the burger button in the upper left corner of the screen and clear the space. This deletes photos and videos that have already been sent to Google Photos from your device. A window will appear telling you how much space will be freed up, touch the button that says Release and wait.
5) How to backup documents and archives
We passed documents and files, ie, PDF,.docx, APK you downloaded, etc. As in the case of photos you have two methods, so we’ll see first online and then offline. If you want to download files to the cloud, you can use Dropbox, MEGA, Box or Google Drive. In this case, we will use Google Drive, as it is Google’s cloud, it is pre-installed on all mobile phones and offers 15 GB of free storage space.
- Open Google Drive and, if you’ve never done it before, log in with your Google account.
- Create one or more folders for easier access to content later (optional).
- Press the “+” button that appears in the lower right area.
- Choose “Upload”.
- Click on the three points in the upper right corner and select “Show internal memory”.
- Expand the side menu and select the internal memory. It is included in the “Download” option.
- Find the files in the folders where you saved them and upload them. If you haven’t moved them, they could be in “Download”.
- If you have a WhatsApp document, go to WhatsApp> WhatsApp document and upload it too.
If you prefer to do it offline, the procedure is the same as we saw in the previous section:
- Connect the mobile phone to the computer via the USB cable.
- On the mobile phone, lower the notification bar, press the “Upload this device via USB.
- Select “Transfer file”.
- On your computer, access your phone’s memory.
- Find the folders where you saved the files.
- Copy and paste to your computer’s hard drive.
To restore the physical backup of photos, videos, files, and documents, simply connect the phone to the computer and move everything to the home folders. They will appear again on your phone as if nothing had happened.
6) How to backup contacts
One of the positive aspects of Android is its excellent integration with Google services and, if there is one that stands out, it is Google Contacts. What are the benefits? If you upload your contacts to the cloud, they will be restored to your new phone immediately after setting up your Google account. Even so, we will see online and offline options. Let’s start with the first one.
- Go to your contacts application.
- Open the settings and select “Export”. This will generate a.vcf file.
- Choose the folder where you want to save the file and name it.
- Download Google Contacts.
- Expand the settings panel by scrolling to the right.
- Access the settings.
- Select “Import” and then “File.vcf”.
- Now choose your Google account.
- Wait until the process is complete.
At the end, all your contacts will have been uploaded to your account and can be restored to any device. You can also consult and modify them from your computer by accessing the Google Contacts website.

Android backup on PC for beginners
Connect your Android device via a USB cable to a PC or notebook. Open the corresponding drive in the PC device manager, then copy and paste the files and folders to the desired location. A good trick is to put the folder in which this backup is performed with the date on which it was executed (for example 21_1_2018) so that the system will keep them sorted in chronological order.
You can also back up manually. That is, you transfer your most important data to the SD card, insert it into a PC or notebook and paste it. This method is more recommended for music, videos, and photos. So was the tutorial helpful?
