Cubot X18 Specs Review – Zero bezel on a budget price

Cubot is that smart phone brand that is slowly and steadily building a name for itself in the African smartphone market and also in the global scene by providing users with what they really want – Good specs and an affordable price. And this, Cubot haven’t failed to do and keep up with. The recently launched Cubot Rainbow with beautiful aesthetics, curved edges and costs only $60 is a good example.

Now, the company is back with yet another device, the Cubot X18 with even better specs at an affordable price at usual.

DESIGN & DISPLAY

The Cubot X18 is a big phablet. The device has dimension of 159.0 x 74.0 x 8.5 mm, has a large thickness probably owing to the size of the battery. The X18 weighs a little lighter (about 170 grams) than most other devices in its calibre.

The conspicuous primary camera, LED flash, and fingerprint sensor are all neatly and vertically arranged on the glossy back of the device. This is a nice design actually. Why? Because moving majority of the device components to the rear makes enough space available for the display screen and reduces the device dimension.

The Cubot X18 comes with a 5.7 inch 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, same screen size and display resolution as the Infinix Note 4. However, the Cubot X18 comes with much thinner bezel, a wider 18:9 ratio and a display that covers more than 85% of the device’s front.

The Cubot X18 display puts it in  the same league as the Samsung Galaxy S8 because they both have the same screen size (roughly) and the same aspect ratio.

PROCESSOR, OS & STORAGE

Asides having a beautiful design and hardware, the Cubot X18 packs impressive software components. The device comes with a Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 chipset with a massive 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage space. The processor has a decent frequency/speed that reaches up to 1.5 GHz.

There is a dedicated micro SD card slot for storage expansion (up to 128 GB), Bluetooth 4.0 and Android v7.0 Nougat OS.

CAMERA AND BATTERY

The front and back camera are of 13 MP and 8 MP quality respectively. However, they can be increased to up to 16 MP and 13 MP respectively through software interpretation. Both the rear and Selfie camera come with LED flash support.

The Cubot X18 is powered by a 3,200 mAh non-removable battery. The device comes with the Fast Charge technology but of unknown version. This is an improvement to earlier Cubot phones (like the Cubot H1) with big batteries but lacked the Quick charging feature.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Cubot X18 has an unbelievable price tag of $120. That’s about NGN 40,000. Should in case you do not have enough money to purchase a Samsung Galaxy S8, this is a pretty much cheaper alternative.
