Does the iPhone 13 Series Really Have the Best Cameras in 2024?

Making the decision to purchase a mobile phone is a pretty difficult task. There are so many awesome competitors and alternatives. Trust me, I’ve been there! The iPhone Series has systematically and frequently taken the title of the best camera smartphone.

This goes without saying that the battle for dominance is becoming a fierce one. As the top giants, Apple and Samsung are constantly on the fight with new but fearsome competitors.

Is the iphone 13 and its siblings the only option available? Here are other alternatives that stand their ground against the Apple giant.

The iPhone 13: Remarkable Gladiator

With its 5G-ready A15 Bionic processor, Apple has once again made the iPhone 13 considerably more powerful than its Android competition. Photographers will like the new Photographic Style filters in the camera app, while videographers will appreciate the new Cinematic mode focus-racking capabilities.

The iPhone 13 may appear to have just changed the location of one of its rear cameras from last year’s model, but trust me when I say there are more significant improvements.

The iPhone 13 is the new bar for premium phones, with a bigger display, larger battery, and improved camera hardware and software.

Apple’s iPhone 13 (beginning at $799) is a powerhouse when it comes to battery life, outlasting prior mid-range smartphones by a considerable shot.

While we enjoy the iPhone 13 mini’s increased portability, the iPhone 12 mini’s lackluster sales showed us that most customers choose extended battery life over a small form factor.

Even if the other improvements from the prior generation are practically invisible here, the battery jump is so significant that the $100 extra over a standard-size iPhone 12 is well worth it.

The iPhone 13 resembles the iPhone 12 in appearance. It’s almost identical in size to the iPhone 12 at 5.8 by 2.8 by 0.3 inches (HWD) and 6.1 ounces, but it’s a third of an ounce heavier.

If you’re upgrading from an older iPhone, you’ll notice a lot of power and camera quality improvements. As a result, the iPhone 13 is the best bet for most purchasers.

Other Series of the iPhone 13

The 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max share the same four cameras, three on the back and one on the front, as well as a 120Hz display refresh rate, an improved A15 CPU with a stronger GPU than the basic iPhone 13, and four color options.

The iPhone 13 Pro boasts excellent battery life, although this is similar to that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, on the other hand, offers the best battery life of any iPhone yet.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is, well, the best of the best. It’s a massive, hefty phone that you won’t want to use in one hand, measuring 6.3 by 3.1 by 0.3 inches and weighing 8.5 ounces.

That’s the price you’ll pay for this type of battery life. But, because it’s about the same size as the 12 Pro Max, you’re already used to it. It is, however, somewhat heavier than the model from last year, which weighed 8.0 ounces.

What Phones Have Cameras equivalent to iPhone 13’s?

One Mobile device cannot have it all, not even the iPhone 13 or its newer series. When comparing the iPhone 13 to other phones, it becomes obvious why – even though the iPhone 13 is a beast- not everyone opts to purchase one.

Aside from the limited flexibility of the Iphone OS, the other criteria that drives people away for the Apple product is price. It would seem all Apples product suffer the same thing, extremely high prices of their products.

I have compiled a list of alternative phones that offer -if not the better, then a similar performance when it comes to camera. Enjoy the read!

1. Google Pixel 6 Pro

Google Pixel 6 Pro
Google Pixel 6 Pro

The Pixel 6 Pro, which was released to mark the end of 2021, is not just the best phone Google has ever built, but it’s also one of the best phones you can still purchase in 2022.

It is the most serious competitor to Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra due to its powerful performance, outstanding software upgrades, distinctive design, and excellent camera system.

The Pixel 6 Pro manages to deliver a great combination of features and design at a lower price than its primary competitors. The 6.7-inch base 128GB model costs $899, which is much cheaper than the $999 price tag for the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro and even less than the $1,099 price tag for the bigger 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The thick bar on the rear conceals three cameras: a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, a 48-megapixel telephoto with 4x optical zoom, and a primary camera with a bigger 1/1.3-inch sensor that, according to Google, collects 2.5x more light than the Pixel 5.

Pixel phones have always had amazing cameras, and this latest generation is no exception.

2. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G

Samsung Galaxy S21
Samsung Galaxy S21

In 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was the greatest Android phone on the market. It has all of the functionality you might desire in a phone, particularly if you enjoy large screens. While it falls short of some of the other top competitors, it’s still a fantastic gadget for any Android user.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra has a more streamlined appearance, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor provides speedier performance. You won’t have to make nearly as many compromises as you would with the normal Galaxy S21.

All included a superior primary 108MP camera, a glass back (rather than plastic), additional RAM, and a higher-resolution display.

When comparing the ultra-wide lens on the Zenfone 8 to the one on the Samsung Galaxy S21, they appear to be identical: 12 MP with a 1/2.55′′ optical format, huge 1.4m pixels, and a narrow f/2.2-aperture lens.

The difference, however, is in the maker. Samsung manufactures its own sensors, but Sony’s IMX363 is used in the Zenfone 8.

3. Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra 5G

Samsung Galaxy S22
Samsung Galaxy S22

This Galaxy S22 Ultra review demonstrates that Samsung understands how to design a flagship phone for power users since it includes the best feature of the Galaxy Note while also providing a slew of additional enhancements.

A 108-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom are all included in the Galaxy S22 Ultra this year.

The cameras on the Galaxy S22 Ultra have received the most changes, as Samsung aims to surpass the iPhone 13 Pro Max and Google Pixel 6 Pro as the greatest photography phone with a slew of improvements.

A larger primary sensor for improved low-light images, an AI-enhanced portrait mode, and a new Super Clear lens are among them.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max, on the other hand, features a 12-megapixel Wide lens, a 12-megapixel Ultra Wide lens, and a 12-megapixel Telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

On paper, Samsung appears to have the upper hand in terms of raw specifications, particularly in the optical zoom sector.

4. OnePlus 9R

Oneplus 9
Oneplus 9

The OnePlus 9 is a low-cost flagship with a strong feature set that falls into our Premium category, including smartphones priced between $600 and $799. It has a Snapdragon 888 processor and a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The OnePlus 9 has a camera system that includes a main module, ultra-wide camera, and monochrome camera for photography. A 48 MP sensor is coupled to a 23mm-equivalent f/1.8-aperture lens in the main camera.

The ultra-wide camera has a 50 MP sensor and a 14mm-equivalent, f/2.2-aperture, Freeform lens, while the monochrome camera has a 2 MP sensor. The OnePlus 9 can record video in up to 8K at 30 frames per second and 4K at 60 frames per second.

5. Asus Zenfone 8

Despite the fact that the iPhone 12 mini didn’t create the kind of impression Apple had hoped for, there are plenty of individuals looking for a smartphone that’s both powerful and small enough to fit in their hands.

For flagship lovers who prefer Android, the Asus Zenfone 8 ($629.99) fills the small-phone void. A 5.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED display dominates the phone’s front.

The screen has a resolution of 2,400 by 1,080 pixels, which translates to 445 pixels per inch. The display becomes extraordinarily bright, topping at 1,100 nits, and the colors are realistic yet lively.

6. Huawei P50 Pro

Huawei P50 Pro
Huawei P50 Pro

The Huawei P50 Pro is the newest P-series high-end smartphone from Huawei. The camera configuration includes a large-sensor primary camera with a 13 mm ultra-wide, a 90 mm tele, a monochrome sensor, and a multispectral color temperature sensor for white balance and color rendering.

The Huawei P50 Pro has a somewhat scary pill-shaped camera bump that houses four AI-powered Leica cameras. A 50MP sensor powers the primary wide camera, complemented by a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with a 3.5x optical zoom, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 40MP monochrome sensor.

7. Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Notebookcheck

Xiaomi Ultrami 11
Xiaomi Ultrami 11

When compared to the Mi 11, everything about the Mi 11 Ultra’s camera has been improved. It has all-new sensors and, more crucially, a conventional wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and telephoto lens setup. That means it foregoes the Mi 11’s “telemacro” lens instead of a periscoped optical zoom lens.

The telephoto lens has a 5x optical zoom, a 10x hybrid zoom, and a maximum digital zoom of 120x, which is the longest we’ve seen. If you need to zoom, the Mi 11 Ultra is the phone for you.

Quick selections enable you to zoom in at 5x, 10x quickly, or 120x. You may also pinch-to-zoom to get the perfect photo framing. The images captured with 5x zoom have remarkable clarity, little noise, and nice color.

8. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra

Xiaomi Ultrami 11

The technological specifications are at the very least commensurate with an Android champion in 2020. According to the manufacturer, the 6.67-inch HDR OLED display has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of over 800 nits.

This is complemented with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with the LiquidCool 2.0 cooling system, a quad camera with 120x zoom, and an exceptional charging speed of up to 120 watts.

Importers charge around 700 Euros ($855) for the Ultra model with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS storage, and over 1,000 Euros ($1,222) for the top model with 16 GB and 512 GB.

The 20 MP front-facing camera is housed in a hole punch in the display’s upper left corner. Selfies taken with the Xiaomi phone feature outstanding colors and crispness.

On the other hand, the front camera can only record films in 1080p at 30 frames per second. On the other hand, videos maybe captured in 8K quality at 30 frames per second or in UHD resolution at up to 60 frames per second with the primary camera.

The primary camera 48-megapixel sensor has an aperture of f/1.85 with OIS and has an equivalent focal length of 25 mm. Overall, the results are excellent and befitting of a high-end smartphone from 2020. Sharpness may, however, be a little greater in some cases, particularly around the borders of the images.

9. Huawei Mate 40 Pro+

Huawei Mate 40 Pro
Huawei Mate 40 Pro

In the UK, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro costs the same as the smallest-storage iPhone 12 Pro Max or the largest-storage Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, but it’s far less appealing due to its lack of applications.

While its photos are generally on pace with its top-tier competitors, and which phone is the ‘best’ is mostly a matter of personal opinion, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro’s sheer amount of settings and features outstrips most of the competition.

While its photos are generally on pace with its top-tier competitors, and which phone is the ‘best’ is mostly a matter of personal opinion, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro’s sheer amount of settings and features outstrips most of the competition.

The main camera is the same 50 MP f/1.9 camera seen in the Huawei P40 series and Mate 40, with a RYYB sensor (red, yellow, yellow, blue) rather than the ‘standard’ RGB (red, green, blue), allowing it to capture more light.

A 20MP f/1.8 ultra-wide camera and a 12MP f/3.4 periscope telephoto (for 5x optical zoom) snapper are also included.

10. Oppo Find X3 pro

Oppo Find X3 Pro
Oppo Find X3 Pro

The Find X3 Pro sees Oppo pick up right where the Find X2 Pro left off, emphasizing a colour-accurate 10-bit display, equally (and exceptionally) capable primary and ultra-wide cameras, and super-fast charging.

Throw in a microscopic lens and curved glass camera module, and you have a phone that builds on the best of what came before while still carving out its own identity.
Oppo touts their 50mp dual configuration as a ‘dual main’ camera system, in which the regular and ultrawide lenses are on an equal footing. Both feature Sony’s IMX766, a 1/1.56″ sensor, and both use All Pixel Omni-Directional PDAF to assist in determining focus points even in low light.
The objective is that images shot with each lens should be equivalent in quality as well as tone, exposure, and color. The two lenses have different apertures – f/1.8 for the normal and f/2.2 for the ultrawide – and only the regular lens has OIS.
As a result, little differences begin to appear when the illumination is poor, especially in night mode, when stabilization is critical.

11. Vivo X70 Pro

Vivo X70 Pro
Vivo X70 Pro

The Vivo X70 Pro (Mediatek) is the worldwide version of Vivo’s Premium smartphone (there is also a China-only variant with Exynos chipset). It’s equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 processor with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage.

The 6.56-inch curved AMOLED display has a 120Hz refresh rate and delivers pictures at FHD+ quality.

The X70 Pro has a quad-camera configuration with a dual-tele arrangement with Zeiss-certified lenses, the same like the flagship model X70 Pro+. However, the Plus model has better resolution sensors and/or quicker apertures in some modules.

The primary camera has a huge 50MP sensor and an f/1.75 lens, while the 12 MP ultra-wide has gimbal-style stabilization. A 12 MP 2x lens works in tandem with an 8MP 5x periscope-style module to provide tele zooming.

Concluding Remarks

Apple, over the past decade, has dominated the mobile phone and camera market. Realizing that they had a formidable competitor, other manufacturers have continue ceaselessly continues to improve and modify their devices and its spec to compete with the tech giant, Apple.

Today, Apple occasionally takes the title of producing the best mobile devices with the best cameras. However, its glory is short-lived when a competitor releases a product specifically meant to surpass that of Apple.
