Ever since the birth of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with bezel-less screen and an all-new infinity display, the smartphone scene has witnessed the an upsurge in the number of bezel-less smartphones than ever before.

Since the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, we have seen smartphones like the Sharp Aquos S2, Leagoo T5 and Leagoo KIICAA MIX, all of which have no bezels and cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Presenting to you today is another cheaper and more affordable alternative of the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Elephone S8.

DESIGN & DISPLAY

Elephone S8

Design-wise, the Elephone S8 is about the same size as the Galaxy S8. The Elephone S8 however can be said to more of a full-view or full display device than the Galaxy S8. The device display covers about 90 percent of the frontal leaving little or next to no space for the home button/ fingerprint scanner and secondary camera at the bottom.

The device had a large 6.0 inch 2K (double HD) display which has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.

At the bottom, the USB Type  C charging port and the double speaker grills are at the bottom. However, there’s a design flaw – no 3.5 mm headphone jack.

PROCESSOR, OS & STORAGE

As big and beautiful the Elephone S8 is, the internal components (software) is equally exciting. A super fast 2.5 GHz Deca-core MediaTek Helio P25 processor is found aboard the device. The processor speed is faster than that of the mighty Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30.

The device has the same storage definition as the Galaxy S8 – 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of built-in storage. As good and sufficient as the storage capacity sounds, that’s all you’ll ever get on the Elephone S8. There is no variant with bigger storage, however, you can expand the storage to suit your needs using the micro SD card slot.

The device runs on the Android v7.1 Nougat operating system. There is no news whatsoever from the company telling if the S8 will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update or not but it most likely will.

CAMERA & BATTERY

Being a device that aims to wrestle the big boys of the smartphone scene, one would except the Elephone S8 to come with a dual camera on the rear, given that’s the latest trend in the smartphone scene.

Unfortunately, it has a single camera. But that camera is a rather impressive 21 MP lens while the snapper on the front is an 8.0 megapixels lens for selfie and video calls.

Elephone S8

The Elephone S8 is kept alive by a non-removable but large 4,000 mAh battery. The device comes with the Quick charge feature that charges the device up to 60% in just 20 minutes!

PRICING & AVAILABILITY

The Elephone S8 currently comes at a retail price of $279.99 compared to Samsung Galaxy S8’s $720 price tag.
