This is how far technology has taken us. we have had great news on different tech startups – How Uber launches its on-demand private jet service, how you can easily request for a car wash service while staying in bed without taking your car out. and many others.
But this one caught my attention; FueledUp. FueledUp is a mobile filling station who will deliver fuel to anyone in Lagos. FueledUp is founded by Subomi Owo-Odusi who already has faced many questions starting from the safety, delivery time, availability of fuel during fuel scarcity periods and many more. Although, there have been numbers of Silicon Valley startups who offer an similar service but it seems as if Subomi is cooking something different here.
How does FueledUp work?
After you’ve signed up for FueledUp, or downloaded the mobile app, placing an order is as simple as entering your location using the map (like you would in any other app), and tapping the “Get FueledUp” button. Either that, or you can access the “Request Fuel” button through the hamburger menu at the top left of the screen (see screenshot below).
The city of Lagos is a place known for traffic jams and bottlenecks, and one sure way FueledUp can be fast in delivering fuel to customers in an effective manner is if the delivery is done hyper-locally. That is, if they have multiple drivers/riders at strategic points across the road network and each one gets routed to the requests that are nearest to them.
Subomi has confirmed that indeed, this is the arrangement they have in place. They have trucks and bikes with permits from the US Department of Transportation to carry flammable liquids.
FueledUp when launched in May will only deliver Petrol, but as demand grows, they intends to add Diesel to their service stack. In the same vein, according to their FAQ page, they will start by servicing Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki Phase 1, but in the weeks after their launch, they will open it up to Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja and Apapa. Plus, they’ve included a form to fill so you can be contacted when the service gets opened up to your location.
