Gaming Laptop Review – Lenovo Legion R720

While everybody may not need a powerful gaming laptop, laptop manufacturers still continue to produce devices with breath-taking features. The Lenovo Legion R720 gaming laptop is a device that easily blows most other laptops out of the water. Why did I say that? Continue reading to find out.

Design

As this device is a gaming laptop, there is just little that can be desired from it in terms of design. Just like most other gaming laptops, the Lenovo Legion R720 comes in a robustly designed body. It is necessary to point out that the chassis used is plastic.

The Legion R720 is definitely not a light laptop. Dimensions for this laptop are 380 x 265 x 25.8 mm and weighs 2.2kg. Above the display, you’ll find a 720p camera while there is a Lenovo branding at the bottom left to the screen.

Display

For display, the Legion R720 comes with an IPS LCD panel that is 15.6-inch diagonally long. The display is 1080p translating to an aspect ratio of 16:9.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard and touchpad are black with red accents outlining both. Since this is not a budget device, the keys have backlighting that enables typing in the dark.

Performance

Since this is a gaming laptop, this is where it delivers. The Lenovo Legion R720 combines an Intel Core i7 -7700HQ CPU, a Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 GPU (with 6GB RAM), 8GB of RAM, and an SSD storage to provide a smooth user experience and smooth gameplay. Lest I forget, there is also 1TB of HDD storage with the 128GB SSD.

The dedicated graphics card used is a high performing one, with its large memory. In addition, the high-end CPU is a quad core with a base frequency of 2.8GHz that can go up to 3.8GHz, ensuring a fast-paced performance.

The Legion R720 runs on Microsoft’s Windows 10 OS for a wonderful software experience.

Battery Life

The Legion R720 is powered by a Li-ion polymer battery that lasts an average of around 6 to 7 hours on moderate use, and about 3 to 4 hours on gaming. While this is not the best there is, it is still manageable.

Connectivity Options

The Lenovo Legion R720 has two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and one type-C USB port for connecting peripherals. There is also a microSD slot, a headphone jack, HDMI port, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

Pricing

You should know that the Lenovo Legion R720 comes in different configurations including one that uses a Core i5 processor, a lower Nvidia GeForce GTX1050 GPU. However, this configuration costs at least $1500 and is available on major online stores.

Conclusion

While the Legion R720 comes with a ton of exciting features, the only downside I can point is the screen. For $1500, Lenovo should have fitted at least a 2K screen for a more pleasurable viewing experience; besides this, this device is a gilt-edged gaming laptop.
