General Mobile GM 8 launched with 64GB Storage – Review, Specs and Price

The General Mobile GM 8 is now official as the update to the GM 6. The new midrange device was announced just before the 2018 Mobile World Congress and comes with a much bigger internal storage than its predecessor.

Apart from the massive storage, the affordable smartphone packs 3GB of RAM, houses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip and an octa-core processor. With all its amazing specs, the Turkish company still made the device very affordable. Without further ado, meet the General Mobile GM 8.

Design

General Mobile GM 8

A midrange device but comes with a Metal overall unibody. It’s refreshing seeing midrange devices coming in Metal instead of the typical Plastic cover. Looks well polished, smooth and comfortable to hold and flaunt as well. The Android One logo at the bottom is to mark the collaboration.

The rear camera is a single shooter sitting side by side with the dual-LED flash. While the fingerprint scanner is under the rear camera for easy access as usual. The sides look sleek and slim as well, measuring just 7.96 mm in thickness and weighing 152g overall. You can get the GM 8 in Gold and Grey colors.

Display

General Mobile GM 8

It offers a Full View display which is impressive for a midrange, but it isn’t totally bezel-less. The screen got up to 75.03% screen to body ratio which is obviously more than the average bezel-less mark. The selfie camera, speaker grille and other sensors sits majestically at the top bezel.

Focusing on the 18:9 aspect ratio display, a bigger 5.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display stunning visuals. It has a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 282 pixel per inch density. Furthermore, a Corning Gorilla Glass protects the multi-touch screen from scratches.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset with a much faster processor than its predecessor. It reaches a maximum speed of 1.4 GHz, with 64-bit CPU architecture and 28nm process technology. In charge of graphics is the Qualcomm Adreno 505 graphics processor.

For multitasking, there are two versions, one with 4GB RAM and a much cheaper variant with 3GB RAM, both reaches a memory speed of 800MHz. There are two versions as well in terms of storage, one with 64GB and a much cheaper variant with 32GB, both are upgradeable up to 128GB. The GM 8 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box.

Camera

It has dual 13MP + 13MP camera, one at the back and one at the front. The back camera has f/2.0 aperture with other quality features that helps capture 4K resolution images. There’s a dual-LED flash to help bring out the best in photographs taken in low light environment. The one at the front has f/2.2 aperture for taking cute selfies and making clear video calls.

Battery

Powering the General Mobile GM 8 up is a 3075mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. It shouldn’t take more than 1.8 hours to fully charge up the battery.

  1. General Mobile works pretty closely with Google and operates in over 45 countries around Europe and Asia. I do wonder how long it’ll be before they turn their eye to our market….
