You get to lose a lot of apps after installing Windows 10 from scratch. One of those apps that tend to disappear from your PC or Laptop is that flexible Windows Photo Gallery Viewer. I always had a love for this old photo viewer right from the days of Windows 7. The new photo viewer on Windows 10 is indeed cool – it has some nifty features, such as its ability to edit and enhance your images with a couple of clicks, but my love for the old Windows Photo Viewer is still in my heart. And I miss it. A lot.
The old photo viewer has always been my favorite default photo app. Now I have found a solution to get the old photo app back on my Windows 10 which I am willing to share with you in just a few steps away. And here’s how you can do the same thing.
Here’s how to do it in a few simple steps:
- First, download this .txt file HERE then rename it as a .REG file (change from photoviewer.txt to photoviewer.reg)
- Double-click to open the new download .REG file to register it into your Windows Registry.
- You will need to click the User Account Control and a few other windows to allow the file to be added to the system Registry.
- After successful registration to the system registry, you should now be able to use the “Windows Photo Viewer” as the default program for various image files.
To do this, open Settings and go to System > Default Apps > Photo Viewer and choose Windows Photo Viewer in the list of programs, and choose Set this program as default. This will set the Windows Photo Viewer as the default program for all file types it can open by default.
Conclusion
That should be all for now. Stay tuned for our next PC tutorial. And as usual, if you have any questions or suggestions, please leave them in the comments box below. Also, do well to use any of the share buttons below.
