Gigabyte’s Sabre 15 gaming laptop is a smaller sibling of the Sabre 17. And while the Sabre 17 is a mid-ranger, the 15-inch sibling is an entry-level offering at an affordable price. At under $1000, the Sabre 15 offers some promise with the same eight-generation CPU and GTX 1060 GPU.

Just like the bigger Sabre 17, this smaller version is VR-ready and with the bevy of connectivity ports, users can hook up to three external displays to the laptop. It is also good to point out that storage for this gaming notebook can reach up to 3TB. Read on to learn more about this interesting device.

Design

First, the Gigabyte Sabre 15 has a minimalistic design with a metal/plastic chassis combination. The package weighs only 2.5 kg and is 29.9 mm thick when closed. Other dimensions for this notebook are 378 x 267 mm making the Sabre 15 a fairly compact 15-incher.

Display

The Sabre 15’s display is a matte Full HD panel based on IPS technology. The display is 15.6 inches diagonally long.  This newer Sabre 15’s panel has a 120Hz refresh rate and quick response times like the 17-inch version.

Keyboard and Touchpad

Much like its elder sibling, the Sabre 15-W8 features a chiclet-style keyboard with per-key RGB backlighting. There’s also a column of macro keys on the left side and the Numpad on the right.

However, unlike the 17-inch Sabre, this 15-inch version’s keyboard is referred to as Flexikey. The keys retain the same 2mm key travel for good typing. The scissor-type keys allow for fast and accurate keystrokes, especially for gamers.

The touchpad area is ample as it covers a 102 x 58 mm area. The touchpad has physical mouse buttons that produce audible sounds when clicked.

Performance

The Gigabyte Sabre 15 packs an Intel Core i7-8750H CPU and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060 GPU (with 6GB of VRAM). Presently running applications and processes are temporarily stored in the 16GB DDR4 RAM chips that can be expanded to 32GB.

This younger Sabre is equipped with the same dual storage system as the Sabre 17. That means that users get a primary 256GB SSD that holds the Windows 10 OS, and a secondary 1TB HDD.

The above hardware combination implies that the Sabre 15-W8 will comfortably handle the majority of the AAA gaming titles with little or no stress.

Furthermore, the Gigabyte Sabre 15 has an efficient cooling system that comprises copper heat pipes and dual fans to ensure that the processors are running at optimal temperatures.

Battery Life

Moving on, this gaming laptop packs a 6-cell 62Wh battery. The average-capacity battery results in short battery runtimes, even on minimum settings.

The laptop connects wirelessly to devices via Bluetooth 4.2 or Dual-Band Wi-Fi.
