Google Pixel 5a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 appear on AOSP

Google has finally announced the date it plans to launch the Pixel 4a which happens to be August 4. Ahead of the launch, however, the successor to the Pixel 4a, the Pixel 5a, has been spotted on AOSP as well as the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. Even more, the comment that revealed that Google was planning to release the phones has also confirmed that Google will end the Android platform update for the Pixel 2 series when Android 11 is released.

The Google Pixel 4a deserves the title of the most leaked smartphone of 2020. Pretty much all the details of the phone have been leaked except for the price. Now, the phone is finally going official after facing months of delay.

The launch of the Pixel 4a was withheld so long that Google has already even begun works on its successor – the Pixel 5a (via 9to5Google). Chances are we might not get to see the phone this year and it might even get canceled.

Along with the Pixel 5a, Google has also begun works on the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5, both of which are expected to be launched later this year. According to the developer comment on AOSP, these phones will come with Android 11 out of the box. This also applies to the Pixel 5a.

Finally, there are talks that Google is already working on dropping Android support for the Pixel 2/2 XL, which launched with Android Oreo. The phone will get the Android 11 update very soon, but that will the last update the phone gets.
