Armed drones now make Chinese police more sophisticated. This report came from a public security expo in China in which the range of increasingly high-tech tools available to the country’s police were showcased.
The exhibition ran from 23rd to 26th October 2018. This news came just when the emphasis is being placed on surveillance and monitoring technology, seeing that government’s domestic spending has been going up.
At the event, several vendors packed their boots with various security cameras and drones. However, the high-end devices seen at the event shows that China has put on equipping its security forces with gear of the future. Most of the devices are expensive though.
China has been spending about 1.24 trillion yuan on domestic security since 2017. According to analysts, that is a 12.4 percent increase from 2016. A Zenz’s report says that bolstering security in China’s minority regions has been a priority.
The Chinese government has used an array of surveillance equipment in the region of Xinjiang which include drones, and in that area alone, security spending increased to nearly 100 percent last year.
Not surprisingly, a UN panel states that estimates of about a million ethnic Uighurs and other Muslim minorities have been placed in internment camps in Xinjiang. Beijing rejects this, claiming that it is battling with separatism and religious extremism through vocational education.
This security expo shows just how broadly technology has been applied to several challenges for the country’s public forces.
Part of research is the use of video analysis such as the detection of facial micro-expression to analyze facial expressions and emotional responses. One of the up and coming products for police interrogation in this regard is still in the pilot stage.
As of the present moment, there are about 30 VR training modules for police and all these are developed by KitSprite. But these days, Chinese companies are taking things too far.
For example, drones developed by Harwar, a Shenzhen-based tech company can come up with a number of add-ons. However, one of the add-ons include net gun module. This module launches a net to ensnare criminals on the run.
Until now, China remains the leader in manufacturing drones worldwide. However, American start-ups want to compete with China in 2024 and beyond.
