How can I block someone on Discord?

The Internet allows us to be in contact with billions of people from all over the world. The downside to this is that… it allows us to be in contact with billions of people from all over the world, and a significant percentage of those people are jerks. Anyone who has played an open chat game knows how malicious or socially inept many people can be. Even in a close-knit group of friends, there may be people whose behavior is problematic.

Whether it’s spamming chat, sending offensive messages, or just annoying in general, on a voice server it can get very annoying… very quickly. Fortunately, if you’re using Discord to host your chat sessions, there are tools available to help you deal with people whose behavior is an issue. In this article, I’ll show you how to block, mute, or kick people out of your chat.

BLOCK VS MUTE VS DEAFEN VS KICK VS BAN ON DISCORD

Blocking a user prevents them from communicating with you via SMS. They will still be able to see your messages and will be able to see your online status.

Muting is similar, but it is for the voice channel. A user who has been disabled cannot speak on the channel, but can still hear what is being said.

Deafen also works on the voice channel and prevents a user from hearing what is being said.

Kicking, of course, means being completely kicked out of the channel or server. However, a user can reconnect to the server after being kicked out if they are invited again.

The ban is the highest level of sanction. A user who is banned is banned from the server and cannot reconnect. In addition, the administrator can optionally choose to delete their own messages on the server in the last 24 hours or in the last 7 days, if the administrator believes that the user’s contributions have been toxic enough to require removal.

Blocking, silencing, kicking or banning a user is obviously a decision of the server administrator.

BLOCK SOMEONE ON DISCORD

If you need to block someone in Discord, here’s how to do it.

  1. Select the user’s profile name in the Direct Message app.
  2. Select the three-dot menu icon to the right of the profile.
  3. Select Block.

The blocked person will still be able to see your messages and will still be able to see your status but will not be able to reply or contact you using Discord. It is a fairly effective way to remove unwanted people.

SILENCE SOMEONE ON DISCORD

The silent is just as simple. Muting will prevent the person from talking to you via the voice channel.

  1. Find the user’s profile name in the user list.
  2. Right-click on the user’s name.
  3. In the context menu, click on “Deactivate”.

DEAFEN SOMEONE ON DISCORD

Deafing will prevent the person from listening to you.

  1. Find the user’s profile name in the user list.
  2. Right-click on the user’s name.
  3. In the context menu, click on “Deafen”.

KICK SOMEONE ON DISCORD

So dumb and deafening aren’t enough and you have to kick someone out. No problem.

  1. Find the user’s profile name in the user list.
  2. Right-click on the user’s name.
  3. In the context menu, click on “Kick”.
  4. Enter the reason you are kicking them; they will be informed of why they were kicked out. Or you could leave it in doubt.

EXCLUDE SOMEONE IN DISCORD

The final answer to your problem with trolls- eliminate them.

  1. Find the user’s profile name in the user list.
  2. Right-click on the user’s name.
  3. In the context menu, click on “Exclude”.
  4. Enter the reason why you are banning them; you can also choose the amount (if any) of their message history to delete.

With these tools at your disposal, you can keep your Discord server running smoothly and troll-free.
