Do you prefer to turn off the standby mode on your Mac, so as not to wait for the computer to resume?

In this guide, we will see how not to let a Mac go to standby using the Energy Saver settings or the Caffeinate utility.

Energy saving

Here are the steps to follow to prevent a Mac from going to standby through the Energy Saver settings:

  1. First, click on the Apple menu (top left), then on System Preferences, and select Energy Saver.
  2. If you use iMac or Mac Pro, put a check mark next to Stop the computer to automatically stop when the monitor is off, and remove it from the  Stop hard drives item whenever possible.
  3. If instead, you use Mac mini or MacBook, move the cursor to Computer in stop towards the Never item and remove the check mark from the item Stop hard drives when possible.
  4. If you use a laptop it is possible not to put the Mac on standby even when it is not connected to an electrical network, and it is sufficient to repeat the previous steps by selecting the Battery tab at the top.
  5. Finally, click on the Program item at the bottom right, remove the check mark, if present, at Stop, and select Ok.

  1. First, start the Terminal from the Other folder on the Launchpad (i.e the rocket icon at the bottom of the screen).
  2. Now enter the caffeinate command, click on Enter and leave the terminal window open so that the Mac does not go on standby,
