Google is currently integrating its workspace feature, Google Chat messaging, and group Rooms with Gmail, and users like the sound of that. While the feature was earlier available for enterprise users, Google is now ensuring the integrated workspace feature is available for personal Gmail account holders.
This collaboration is happening amid the coronavirus disruption, which has kept many of us indoors. However, as social distancing remains the norm, we can only thank popular tech brands for bringing new features for the userbase to adapt to self-isolation across the globe. Thankfully, Google also followed this lead and has made the Google Chat and group Room feature available for free users.
Once enabled on the Gmail mobile application, the feature will pop up on four different tabs at the bottom of the display. While Mail and Meet have been available for the past few months, Google has said that these integrations will now let users “quickly join a video call from a chat, forward a chat message to your inbox, [or] create a task from a chat message.” Notably, Chat and Rooms work similarly to the standalone Google Chat application, whereby one can get rid of the “dedicated client.” In case you need to try out the fresh workspace features on Gmail, see How To Activate Gmail With Google Chat, Rooms:

The process is not different from that of the mobile application, and you have to head to Settings> All settings > Chat and Meet > Google Chat (Early Access) > Save changes, and that is that you’ll be able to create group chats or individuals from your inbox. However, ensure the application is updated to the latest version on Google Play Store else it will not work.
