The Two-Factor Authentication makes it a lot more difficult for hackers to get hold of your Instagram as it requires you to verify yourself by providing you with an information you, and only you will know or have access to.
This information might be a PIN, Password or Code Word. The information can be sent via a lot of means; Through SMS, Email, Physical Mail etc.
