If you have a picture with white edges or white background, adding a border around the image is a good way to keep the image from spilling over into your document. You can also use borders to add a little extra flair. In this guide, we will show you how to add borders to your images in Microsoft Word.
How to Add Borders to Your Images in Microsoft Word
If you want to add a border around your image, first launch Microsoft Word on your Windows PC or Mac.
Next, insert the image you want to border around to your Word document and then click it. If you haven’t already inserted the image into your document, you can do this by clicking “Insert” and then “Pictures.”
Once you have selected the image, you should see the Picture Format tab. Once it appears, click it and then select a style of border you want from the “Picture Styles” gallery.
Picture Styles GalleryYou can also expand the gallery by clicking the down arrow next to the displayed styles in the box.
When you find a frame you like, you can select it by simply clicking it. Once you click it, the style will be applied to the picture. For this guide, we selected the Metal Frame style, and you can check what it looks like in the image below:
Word also gives you the option to customize the image border. To do this, select the image and then go to the Pictures Styles group under the Picture Format tab. Next, click “Picture Border.”
Now, you should see a drop-down menu. From this menu, you can select many color options for your frame. The menu also has options to apply a border weight (how thick the border is) and dashes (line style of the border).
If you want to remove a border around an image, click the image, then go to the Picture Format tab, click adjust and then select the “Reset Picture” button.
All the borders, effects, and styles you have added to the picture will be removed.
Although Microsoft Word is not popular for its image editing functionalities, the app does come with an adequate bunch of basic tools to help you edit your picture. Some of them include remove a background from an image or even placing text over the image.
Have fun editing!
