How to Add Borders to Your Images in Microsoft Word

If you have a picture with white edges or white background, adding a border around the image is a good way to keep the image from spilling over into your document. You can also use borders to add a little extra flair. In this guide, we will show you how to add borders to your images in Microsoft Word.

How to Add Borders to Your Images in Microsoft Word

If you want to add a border around your image, first launch Microsoft Word on your Windows PC or Mac.

Next, insert the image you want to border around to your Word document and then click it. If you haven’t already inserted the image into your document, you can do this by clicking “Insert” and then “Pictures.”

Once you have selected the image, you should see the Picture Format tab. Once it appears, click it and then select a style of border you want from the “Picture Styles” gallery.

You can also expand the gallery by clicking the down arrow next to the displayed styles in the box.

When you find a frame you like, you can select it by simply clicking it. Once you click it, the style will be applied to the picture. For this guide, we selected the Metal Frame style, and you can check what it looks like in the image below:

All the borders, effects, and styles you have added to the picture will be removed.

Although Microsoft Word is not popular for its image editing functionalities, the app does come with an adequate bunch of basic tools to help you edit your picture. Some of them include remove a background from an image or even placing text over the image.

Have fun editing!
