How to block Phishing without installing any program? Sometimes, on the web, just a click on an apparently harmless link, and the deed is done. But, unfortunately, unwanted toolbars, spyware, viruses, and malware of any kind are constantly lurking, ready to infect us to affect our privacy or the health of our PC.
Added to this is spam, which not only represents a waste of time in the management of e-mails but even involves a real danger to our security, as it is used to spread dangerous malware.
Never open an attached file in a spam email, whatever its extension, even if it catches our interest.
In the article, we will see how we can sail the seas of the internet in total safety from any device. And all without paying a cent.
How to block Phishing without installing any program
Phishing is a method used by hackers to lure us into fake websites, apparently identical to those we normally browse, in this way, the targeted user thinking he is in front of a friendly web page, such as that of your bank, eBay, PayPal, etc., logs in by entering your credentials.
In reality, the impostor can thus learn of your login data and use them for his fraudulent purposes.
Despite the efforts of Google and the police, the risk of Phishing is still high, and there are thousands of fraudulent sites currently active.
In essence, the attack is carried out in this way.
You receive an e-mail where we are asked by our credit institution, for example, to change the login password for security reasons, and we are provided with the link to provide the operation.
The link actually points to a site that is a photocopy of the real one and which is used exclusively to acquire our personal information, username, password, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, dates of birth, and more.
However, with a little common sense, you can avoid ending up in the trap; first of all, let’s not get duped by these emails, even if they have the bank, Apple, or other logos.
Be careful if there are grammar errors in the mail; they are often a warning that it is a scam orchestrated by foreign pirates.
We are wary of emails that have a familiar character, banking institutions always use a formal tone, do not trust messages that claim to come from our bank, and that invite us to click on a link to access the site.
In case of doubt, we open a browser page and directly type the website’s real address, never access it through links contained in the messages.
We add the extension- Web of Trust from www.mywot.com to the Firefox or Chrome browser.
It will help us to recognize the reputation of a website whose page we have opened to identify dangerous ones that could be phishing.
Browsers already contain phishing defense tools that we can enable for safer browsing.
With Chrome and go to the settings, click Show advanced settings, and in privacy, make sure that the active item protection against phishing and malware is checked.
In Internet Explorer, we go to security tools and select enable SmartScreen filter; in this way, where we come across a phishing site, a pop-up will notify us of the danger.
