Years of using desktop computers, both PC and Mac, have “taught us” that keeping many programs running slows down your PC, consumes a lot of memory and could cause problems.

As a result, you may want to apply your knowledge to your iPhone and close the apps you are not using. Actually you don’t really need to do it- closing iPhone apps generally doesn’t save battery life, extend memory or help your phone work better.
NEVER MISS- How to transfer songs from iTunes to Android
In fact, it can sometimes make things worse. This is because Apple has designed iOS to intelligently manage apps, putting them on hold at low power and low memory when not in use. That said, in some cases, it may be necessary to close an app, especially if it behaves badly. The process varies slightly depending on the iPhone being used.

- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the switcher app. You should see all your apps represented as cards.
- Scroll from one side of the app to the other until you find the one you want to close.
- Swipe up on the app you want to close. When it disappears from the top of the screen, the app has been closed.
- Continue to close the apps as desired.
- When you’re done closing apps, tap the screen to close the app selector. If you touch an app tab, you will open that app; if you touch the screen around the cards, you will return to the main screen.
How to close apps on iPhone 8 or earlier
- Press the Home button twice. This starts the app switcher, where you should see all your apps represented as cards.
- Scroll from one side of the app to the other until you find the one you want to close.
- Swipe up on the app you want to close. When it disappears from the top of the screen, it means that the app has been closed.

- When you are done closing the apps, tap anywhere on the screen other than the tabs or press the Home button to close the app selector. If you touch an app tab, you will open that app.
If the Home button isn’t working properly, you can also enable the iPhone’s AssitiveTouch feature, which has a Home button on the screen, then follow the same steps to open the switcher app.
How to close multiple apps on iPhone simultaneously
Here’s a little useful trick- you can close up to three apps at a time. To do this, simply open the app switcher and slide up to three apps simultaneously with multiple fingers.
It can take a little practice and coordination to do it, and obviously there must be three apps side by side that are all visible on the screen at the same time. It may be easier to close them one at a time.
