How to connect Spotify with Amazon Echo

Smart speakers are incredibly popular in 2024 and seem to be gaining popularity only over time. While Amazon and Google seem to have a foothold in the market, everyone from Apple to Motorola, from Samsung to Sonos, and even smaller companies like Insignia seem to be trying to get into the game of smart speakers. However, no company seems to be more successful than the Amazon range of Echo devices, all powered by Alexa.

Amazon Echo and Amazon Alexa have become a staple of the music community, inspiring everything from dozens of gadgets and products, thousands of add-ons to make devices more powerful, and perhaps above all, a popular meme on Twitter.

One of the best things about the Echo when it comes to listening to music is its ability to synchronize with the most popular music streaming service on the market today, Spotify. However, connecting Spotify to Echo is not a one-click process. Today we’ll show you how to make the Spotify music application work with Echo. Let’s listen to some songs!

CONNECT SPOTIFY WITH AMAZON ECHO

You have your Amazon Echo configuration and you’re ready to go. Now we just have to set up the connection to Spotify so you can play your music. You will need a premium account to use Spotify with Alexa, only FYI.

To set up the connection:

    • Open the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone or mobile device.
    • Scroll down to the welcome part of the Alexa app until you see “Customize Alexa”, then tap that text.
    • In the list of Alexa devices, you’ll see Accounts. In the Account list, tap “Music and media”.
  • In Music Services, tap Spotify. You can link an existing Spotify account or register a new one. Tap the link highlighted in blue that says “Link account on Spotify.com”.
  • On the next screen, connect Alexa to Spotify by logging into your Spotify account or by registering for Spotify.
  • If your Spotify account is linked to your Facebook account, you can access Spotify by tapping the blue “Log in with Facebook” button. Alternatively, you can use an e-mail address and a password if you want to use Spotify without going through Facebook.
  • If you log in via Facebook, you will probably be asked to accept the terms and conditions. Tap the “Accept” button to continue. On the next screen, you will confirm that you are logged in with the correct Facebook account and select continue.
  • Soon! Your Spotify account has been successfully connected to Alexa.

Now that your accounts are connected to Alexa, you can play your Spotify music via Alexa on your Amazon Echo.

LISTEN TO SPOTIFY THROUGH AMAZON ECHO

The initial configuration to use Spotify together with Alexa on Amazon Echo is completely configured. Now how do you use Amazon Echo to use Spotify and play music? Don’t worry, we’ll tell you.

  • Say “Alexa Play Spotify”. When I set up my account for the first time and gave this command, Alexa said that my linked Spotify account was not premium, run the upgrade and try again. Shoot, there’s no need to fool her!
  • Since you need a Premium account, I signed up for a free 30-day Spotify Premium trial. (At the end of the trial period, it is $ 9.99 a month. If you are not strong with $ 9.99 a month, be sure to cancel before getting the money withdrawn from your selected payment account.)

After getting the 30-day trial, everything worked like a well-oiled machine.

  1. So once again say “Alexa Play Spotify”. She replies- “To listen to Spotify, tell me what playlist, artist or genre”.
  2. Give her the information she needs. “Alexa plays Ariane Grande on Spotify”. Alexa’s answer was- “Playing Ariane Grande’s songs through Spotify.” Excellent!

So now I have a free 30-day Spotify Premium trial and now it works with my Amazon Echo Dot without a hitch.

This is all you need to connect the Spotify music application with Amazon Echo via the Amazon Alexa app. You can do it on your smartphone or mobile device. Once everything is connected to each other and you have a premium Spotify account configuration, just tell Alexa what you want to listen to with Spotify and Amazon Echo starts playing the music almost immediately.
