How to temporarily delete or deactivate your Instagram account
But before deleting your account, there are several things to consider. By deleting the account permanently, the profile and all its content ( photos, videos, comments, likes and followers) will be permanently deleted and, in this case, it will no longer be possible to reactivate the account. That’s why it also offers the option to temporarily disable your account.
From the Instagram web portal, you can temporarily deactivate your account. However, if you know the secret link, you can permanently delete your account, however you cannot temporarily delete or deactivate it from the mobile application, but you will have to use the browser and the web page. Here we explain both options.
- Open your browser and go to Instagram.com.
- Log in.
- Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Edit profile next to your username.
- Click Temporarily disable my account in the lower right corner.
This process is simple, you just have to choose in a drop-down tab the reason why you want to temporarily deactivate your profile and enter your password for security.
Your photos, comments and likes will be hidden until you decide to reactivate your account, which will be done automatically by logging in again.

- Log in.
- Select the reason why you want to deactivate the account, enter the password and click the red button Permanently delete my account.
- Click Ok.

How to reactivate your Instagram account
If you choose to temporarily deactivate your account, you can reactivate it by logging into the app or web interface on Instagram.com.
Unlike Twitter, Instagram doesn’t permanently delete your account if you don’t reactivate it at a certain time, so don’t worry that it will disappear if you forget it for a while.
However, and again unlike Twitter, Instagram doesn’t allow you to reactivate your account immediately after deactivating it. According to Instagram, it takes a few hours to deactivate an account, so once done, you will have to wait for that time to reactivate it.
