A recently discovered privacy bug in Apple’s FaceTime software lets users hear and see the individual they are calling, without the receiver answering the call.
The error affects iPhones and iPads running on iOS 12.1, and Apple computers running macOS Mojave with recently-added Group FaceTime attribute.
Apple agreed and began disabling the Group FaceTime feature for every user, but the problem might still affect one-on-one FaceTime calls. As we wait for the company to come up with a solution this week, we have come up with ways to disable FaceTime on your Apple devices:
- Access settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Select FaceTime after scrolling down
- Toggle off the green button you at the top of your screen
For steps to disable it on Mac:
- Launch the FaceTime app
- Navigate to FaceTime on top of the screen.
- Click on “Turn FaceTime Off.”
As soon as the bug is active, the individual who called will start hearing the live audio on the receiver’s mobile device, but the screen does not show any sign whatsoever that their convo is being transmitted. The bug even goes as far as showing live video of the person on the receiving end if they click on the volume button to end the call.
