Depending on your usage of Google’s Chrome browser, there are times when you may have as many as 20 tabs open at once, even though you can’t stand having more than 5 open. If you are in this kind of situation, then Tab Groups may be a useful tool for you and yes, they work on Android too.
Google added the Tab Groups feature to Google Chrome for desktop back in May 2020. They have subsequently made the feature available to Android smartphones and tablets as well and the feature works pretty much the same way. With the feature, you can group tabs together, similar to how you save files in a folder, to keep them organized. In this guide, we will show you how to group tabs together in Google Chrome for Android.
How to Group Tabs Together in Google Chrome for Android
Before you proceed, you need to know that to use tab groups in Chrome on your Android device, you need to have at least version 88 installed on your device. Once you have this version or newer, the feature will be automatically enabled.
Once you have that done, proceed to follow the steps below.
First off, go to the Google Chrome app on your Android phone or tablet.
Next up, tap on the tap icon in the top part of the screen. This will open a list of all your open tabs.
You should see all your open tabs listed in a grid. If you want to create a group, simply tap and hold on a tab and then drag it on top of another tab. Once you notice the bottom tab is highlighted, release the tab.
Now, the tabs will be added to a group named “2 Tabs.” You can tap on the group to open it.
If you want to enter any one of the tabs in a group, you will see the other tabs from the group in a row across the bottom. With this, you can easily switch between the tabs that are in a single group.
If you tap on the arrow, the tab group preview will be opened again. You can add a new tab to the group by tapping the “+” icon.
If you want to remove a tab from the group but still keep it open in your main tabs, simply go to the group preview window, tap and hold on the tab and then drag it to “Remove from Group.”
That is all! Although this trick is really simple, it can go a long way in helping you keep your tabs more organized. Now, you no longer have to search through a full list of tabs before you find one. You can keep a few tabs together and then move from one to the other easily.
