How to know if your iPhone is unlocked

iPhones purchased through an operator are most likely locked. They will remain locked until the contract expires and the phone is fully paid for. On the other hand, iPhones purchased in Apple stores and paid in full will certainly be unlocked.

This article will show you three simple methods you can use to find out if your iPhone is unlocked or not. But first, let’s see why it’s so important in the first place.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that you can easily connect to any telephone operator if your iPhone is unlocked. For example, you can switch from Iliad to Wind and your iPhone will work perfectly.

In case your iPhone is locked, you won’t be able to do it. That’s why unlocked phones cost a lot more.

Not knowing if your iPhone is locked or not could cause potential problems. Let’s say you’re going somewhere. You will probably want to replace your SIM card with one from a local operator to avoid unnecessary costs. Imagine … your iPhone will not allow you to switch operators while you are on the move. You should then improvise or use your main card.

This is just one of the scenarios that explain the importance of knowing this information on the phone.

METHOD 1- USE THE SETTINGS OF YOUR IPHONE

The first method you can use to find out if your iPhone is unlocked requires going through its settings. That’s how:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone and touch it.
  2. Touch on mobile.
  3. Tap on Cellular Data Options.
  4. Look for the Cellular Data Network option. This option is labeled Mobile Data Network on some versions of iOS.

If you see the Cellular Data Network or Mobile Data Network option, it means that your iPhone is probably unlocked. This method is not always 100% accurate as in some cases users have reported that their iPhones had cellular data networks but were effectively locked.

If you purchased a second-hand phone and want to know for sure if it is unlocked, try the following method.

METHOD 2- USE THE SIM CARD OF YOUR IPHONE

Contrary to the previous method, this will surely solve the dilemma. To prove it, you will need two SIM cards from two different operators. Here’s what you need to do:

[jetpack-related-posts]
  1. Make a call with your current SIM card. If everything works as it should (if your iPhone has connected properly), go to the next step.
  2. Turn off your iPhone.
  3. Open the SIM card tray on your iPhone.
  4. Remove the current SIM card from the main telephone company.
  5. Insert another SIM card of another operator.
  6. Turn on your iPhone.
  7. Call the same number and check if your iPhone can reconnect.

If your iPhone connected correctly the second time (using a different SIM card), it means it’s unlocked. Keep in mind that you should call the same number with two different cards just to make sure there are no network errors. If everything connects correctly when you call that number the first time, it should do the same the second time.

METHOD 3- CONTACT THE OPERATOR

This method is quite self-explanatory. Simply call your phone operator and request this information. The downside to this method is that you may have to wait a while. It may take some time for the courier to reply, but they are usually fast.

The courier will check if your iPhone is unlocked by looking at the phone’s IMEI number. The IMEI number is a unique 15-digit code for your device. They will use this code to identify your device and learn more about it.

If you do not wish to contact your telephone operator, you can try an alternative solution. You can check the IMEI number of your phone using online services. You can use services like  IMEI24.com  that apply a small commission or free alternatives like  IMEI.info.

There are many online services to choose from, but all require you to know the IMEI of your iPhone. Here’s how you can find it:

  1. Open your iPhone settings.
  2. General Touch.
  3. Tap Information.
  4. Scroll down and find the IMEI number.

Type that number into the online tool input box and you’ll get your information in no time.
