Google Pay is an online paying system and digital wallet that simplifies purchasing anything on your smartphone or with your mobile device. But if you are bothered about how Google is tampering with your data, things do not get simpler as Google Pay possesses some secret settings for the management of your settings.

Bleeping Computer recently reported that privacy settings are not accessible via the main Google Pay setting page that is available through the navigation sidebar.

Its URL is https://pay.google.com/payments/u/0/home#setting

On the page, users get to alter general settings such as address and payment users.

But if users intend to change privacy settings, then a different page is needed, https://pay.google.com/payments/u/0/home?page=privacySettings#privacySettings

On the screen, users can make adjustments on all the same settings available on the other settings page, and they can even tackle 3 additional privacy settings – having a say on if Google Pay can share account information, personal information, and creditworthiness.

The complete language of those 3 alternatives are:

  1. Allow Google Payment Corporation to share third party creditworthiness information about you with other companies owned and controlled by Google LLC for their everyday business purposes.
  2. Allow your personal information to be used by other companies owned and controlled by Google LLC to market to you. Opting out here does not impact whether other companies owned and controlled by Google LLC can market to you based on information you provide to them outside of Google Payment Corporation.
  3. Allow Google LLC or its affiliates to inform a third party merchant, whose site or app you visit, whether you have a Google Payments account that can be used for payment to that merchant. Opting out may impact your ability to use Google Payments to transact with certain third party merchants.

Bleeping Computer said the default of Google Pay is to get the settings activated. To opt out, users need to head to special URL that cannot be accessed via the navigation bar.

Like the Reddit post that brought about the Bleeping Computer report said, this inconsistency makes it seem like Google Pay is keeping its privacy options hidden. The words were, “Google is not walking the talk when it claims to make it easy for their users to control the privacy and use of their own data.”

A Google worker also shared in a recent interview that the company is working on making the privacy settings more accessible, the words were, “The different settings views described here are an issue resulting from a previous software update and we are working to fix this right away so that these privacy settings are always visible on pay.google.com,”

“All users are currently able to access these privacy settings via the ‘Google Payments privacy settings page’ link in the Google Pay privacy notice.”

For now though, head to this link for the privacy settings. Ensure those 3 boxes are not ticked.
