How to make money with AdSense

Is it possible to make money with Google Adsense? Many websites would attest to this, but what’s their secret to success? Some have been very lucky, but most of them worked hard to get to where they are today.

How does Google AdSense work?

So let’s see in a nutshell how AdSense works? Google Adsense is the Google advertising program through which you can earn money in a very simple way.

All you have to do is place banner ads on your blog, and every time a visitor to your site clicks on one of them, Google will pay you a percentage of money (CPC). They can also pay you for every thousand people who visit your blog (CPM).

How much do you earn with AdSense?

With all this obvious effort of hours of planning, dozens of hours to put together a real website, and hundreds, perhaps more, of hours to create the quality content our users need, the moment of truth has arrived. How much do you earn with a site?

AdSense pays for ads in two main ways- CPC and CPM. That was “Cost per click” or “Cost per thousand views”. We, webmasters do not choose the type of offer. Likewise, we don’t choose to run the ads that pay the highest CPC.

It is Google that decides all this. Google, the advertisers, and the targeting they have created for their ads in a symbiotic relationship that evolves over time. We are talking about a few euro cents every time someone clicks on an ad. In fact, there are websites where I use alternatives that pay more.

How to make money with AdSense

The fact is that making money with AdSense is not magic, but a science. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of x tips you can follow to maximize your Google Adsense revenue.

1. Publish high-quality content consistently

As obvious as it may be, this is the most important piece of advice of all – everything else you do to get more ad clicks is just a tweak. If you don’t have high-quality content, you won’t have high-quality traffic, and advertisers won’t bid for a spot on your site. It’s that simple.

If your content is good, but you don’t post regularly, people will stop worrying about returning to your site, so you will start to see numbers drop. Before doing anything else to try to make money with AdSense, you need to make sure you have good content that users can enjoy.

2. Bump conversion with a variety of ads

An easy way to make money with AdSense is to have more than one type of ad unit on your site, in different sizes. This means that users will be able to see more ads from Google’s ad space and be more likely to click on one of them.

Image and text ads compete for the same space on your site in auctions. Increasing competition can increase your earnings.

3. Insert the best performing ad in the HTML code of a page first

You may need to go down a little bit in your Adsense analysis to figure out which ad has the best click-through rate, but if you can code this ad first in the HTML of each page, you can actually increase your revenue.

It would be the first ad that the Google Adsense crawler will see, which means it will get the most impressions, increasing the auction value and earning more money.

4. Keep the number of ads above the fold to a minimum

While it’s useful to have ads above the fold (the part of the page that is visible without having to scroll), don’t fill it with ad units. Users get annoyed if they open a website and only see advertisements, making it difficult to read the actual content.

Not only will this increase the bounce rate, but Google will penalize pages with this type of content as well.

5. Use the most popular ad sizes

Some ad sizes tend to be much more popular with advertisers than others. When creating your ads, use the recommended size. Currently, the most popular sizes are 160 × 600, 720 × 90, 336 × 280, and 320 × 100 banners.

6. Tag your images

Make sure you use keywords in your image alt tags to make sure your images show up in image search engines. You will be surprised at how much AdSense will make you from this type of traffic.

7. Follow the rules

Follow Google’s best practices for ad placement to make sure you don’t get penalized and lose money this way.

8. Use Google Custom Search

This is a great way to make money with AdSense. If you use Google Custom Search as your site search, you’ll get a reduction in search ad revenue.

9. Make text ads more visible

Experiment with the color of your text ad units to make them more visible. Each site has a different look and feel, and ads need to be displayed correctly on your site. Some colors may be too bright and distracting against a dark background and vice versa.

Try matching the border and background color of your text ads with your site design for a better user experience. You can use contrast to make your ads stand out, but stick with your site’s color scheme. Measure the results and choose the format that works best.

10. Make sure you have a responsive design

With around 60% of online users spending a lot of time on mobile platforms, having responsive web design has truly become a must. If your website isn’t scaled properly for mobile and you don’t have responsive ads, your users won’t be able to see your ads, which can greatly impact your clicks.

AdSense offers responsive ad unit codes – make sure you enable them. If you don’t have a responsive website yet, it might be time for an update.

11. Add linked ads to your page

Link ads are small units that you can place on a page in addition to the three main AdSense units. They display keywords related to your users’ interests and can increase your revenue if you enter them correctly.

12. Link Google Analytics to Adsense

If you don’t have the stats, it’s hard to figure out how to improve your site. Linking your Google Analytics account with Adsense will allow you to see how your traffic affects ad revenue.

You will also be able to see which pages are getting the most traffic and ad clicks and where they come from. This can help you understand what type of content works best for your users and what strategies work to drive traffic to your site.

13. Do it all for your users

Don’t get so caught up in trying to make money online that you of your users. If they consistently find good content on your site, they’ll come back – and so will their friends. Remember to balance your site’s look, layout, and ads with your content.

You need to provide an aesthetically pleasing and fun experience. Look at your site critically through a user’s eyes and see where you can improve the experience.

14. Keep an eye on your scorecard

Google has conveniently placed a scorecard in the AdSense dashboard that can pinpoint certain problems with your site. It gives you an indication of how well your site compares to those of other publishers when it comes to loading speeds, ad units, crawler errors, and mobile ad performance.

If there is something obvious that can affect your Adsense, it will show up on your scorecard.

15. Use your keywords wisely

Some words are still very important for people to discover your content. Use a keyword tool like the one offered by SEMrush to find out which keywords in your niche get the best CPC.

Use them wisely without spamming them all over your site. Rather, they research deeply and create valuable content around them.

16. Build an audience first

Once your website is up and running, it may seem like a good idea to set up your AdSense account right away, but it’s actually best to create your audience first.

Seeing ads all over the site can discourage your visitors, so you must first establish your site as a reliable destination, without appearing to be someone who does this just for the money.

17. Refrain from blocking and filtering too much

Google allows you to specify what types of ads you don’t want people to see on your site. If you want to earn revenue, don’t block or filter anything unless necessary. You will simply reduce the revenue potential of your site.

18. Experiment with your ad units

To find out which ad formats work best with your site, you need to split them up to test them. See if text-only or text-and-image ads work best in certain locations.

Play with the background colors and font size of your text ads. Use Google Adsense experiments to set this up.

19. Stay informed

Google Adsense is constantly growing and changing, which means your site will need to keep up with the latest changes. Subscribe to Google’s Inside AdSense blog to be updated on the latest news. Google also runs a free online course on Adsense, which can be very useful.

20. Keep the split test and continue editing

To make money with AdSense, keep trying different unit sizes and positions of your ads on the page. Post several ads and see which one offers you the highest earnings per 1,000 visitors. Then do the test again. It is again.

Conclusion

There are a lot of changes you can make to make money with AdSense, but ultimately it all comes down to attracting traffic and delivering the best user experience possible.
