A simple way to get files moved to your personal computer will not need any extra software. Bear in mind, though, these instructions will only work on Windows PCs. If you are a Mac owner, a software will be required.

These are the steps needed:

1. Connect Your Phone To PC

Before anything else, connect your Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge to any available port with a USB cable. Recognition of the connection between both devices will only use up few seconds of your time.

2 Device Prompts

You will be instructed to allow access to your data. If this prompt is visible, click “Allow.” Also, a USB status bar pop-up might be visible on your display. It can show you “Connected as a USB device” or identical words. Simply hold and drag downward to access more options. Ensure the “Connect as Media device (MTP)” box under USB PC Connection is ticked.

3. Launch File Explorer Or Windows Explorer

When your computer detects your device, an AutoPlay menu might pop-up instantly. Select “Open folder to view files” from the general options of the menu. You can also explore data files when you press the Windows key + E on the keyboard. Or, check out files by right tapping on “Start” and choosing Open File Explorer or Windows Explorer. If your files are not opened this way, head to your device. It will be seen under “Portable Devices” or “This PC.”

4. Open Phone Files

Your phone files will be organized into different folders. Some of the visible folders would be- DCIM, Pictures, Movies and Download. More folders will be seen but it depends on the applications you have installed on your smartphone. For moving of files, just drag and drop from your device to a different location on your personal computer. Plus, you can even copy or cut files and have them pasted somewhere else on your system.

Do not forget, however, that this can only be done for files that are not DRM-protected. Meaning, you will be unable to use this method to get copyrighted files and contents moved.

When you are through with your file transfers, ensure the USB is disconnected from your computer and your phone.

More Methods

If you do not fancy using a USB cable, files can also be moved from your Samsung S6/S6 Edge or your computer with the help of cloud services. Just upload to your preferred cloud service and then have it downloaded onto your personal computer later.

Also, you can even use 3rd-party applications to transfer files from your phone to a personal computer. 3rd-party software have different functionality and UI, but there are several options available on the market. Anyone you use will be simple to work with and they come with reduced risks.
