The image search part of Google Search is a very powerful tool. Google Image Search can be very effective when searching for pictures from around the web. The tool is used by millions of people around the globe every day and yet only a few may have realized that Google has certain tools that can be used to narrow down image search results by color. In this guide, we will show you how to filter Google Image Search results by color.

How to Narrow Down Google Image Search Results by Color

First off, launch your web browser and then enter the URL “google.com/images”. This will take you to the Google Image Search page. Once on the page, enter keywords for an image you would like to search, and then press the Enter key or click the Search icon. In this guide, we decided to search for “trees” as an example.

Once the results page comes up, click the Tools button. You can find it in the toolbar right below the search area which is close to the top of the page.

Click Tools

Now, you should see a tiny toolbar right below the button. Select the “Color” menu.

From the choices that are displayed, select a color square for the color you want. There is also a “Black and white” option. This option is best suited if you are looking for pictures in black and white. You can also select the “Transparent” option to search for photos with transparent backgrounds.

The option we chose in the guide, for example, is blue by selecting the square colored blue.

Once you select a color, Google will immediately update the search results to reflect the color you chose. Images that will be displayed in the result will have the color you selected as the predominant color. For instance, the example we used has a whole load of blue trees!

After that, the search results will automatically update to reflect the color you selected. You’ll see images where the predominant color is the one you selected. For example, here are some blue trees!

If you want to switch to another color, all you need to do is go to the “color” menu and choose another color. If you also want to clear this setting and make search results display irrespective of color, simply choose the “Any color” option from the color menu.

And that’s pretty much it. Hope this makes your search experience on Google even better and easier. If you have got any questions, make sure to leave them in the comments below.
