How to play Apple Music on Google Home

Google Home has become stronger and stronger and is now a very useful and very powerful home assistant. Once installed in your home, you can stream music via Bluetooth, allowing you to play Apple Music on Google Home. This tutorial will show you how to do it.

The big brands usually don’t like to collaborate, but sometimes they have no choice. They can be competitors, but they also know that if they hinder each other, not allowing the user to enjoy a service, this will cost them in terms of sales and popularity. Two companies that usually don’t get along are Apple and Google. A Google Home update in 2024 has enabled a couple of new features, WiFi calls and support for Bluetooth audio streaming.

PLAY APPLE MUSIC ON GOOGLE HOME

The easiest way to play Apple Music on Google Home is to use the built-in Cast support that Google Home puts on the table. Since its launch almost four years ago, Apple Music was not willing to offer support for Chromecast, but with the latest 2019 updates, you can finally use Chromecast with Apple Music.

Unfortunately, starting August 29, 2019, you will have to be on the Apple Music beta, which you can join here on Android, or you can wait for the official v3.0 of the application to launch this fall. It is not clear if iOS users will also receive Chromecast support, but if they do, it should arrive with iOS on September 13th.

USING THE BLUETOOTH

Google Home is compatible with several music service providers. Obviously on YouTube, Chromecast, Deezer, Spotify, TuneIn, Netflix, Polk and Raumfeld are all audio partners of Google. Apple is not mentioned. Fortunately, through the magic of Bluetooth you can make them work together.

To make this work, you need an iPhone or at least a subscription to Apple Music and a Google Home. I describe the use of an iPhone but you can of course use any Apple device with Bluetooth.

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your iPhone and Google Home.
  2. Open the Google app and select Devices.
  3. Select Settings and associated Bluetooth devices.
  4. Select Enable association mode. Now Google Home is listening to other devices.
  5. Open your iPhone Control Center and turn on Bluetooth.
  6. Wait for the devices to be found and select Google Home on your iPhone and iPhone on Google Home.
  7. Select Match and you’re done.

Now you should be able to play music from your iPhone, select Bluetooth as audio and it will be streamed and played by Google Home. Once paired, the two devices should not need further configuration and should save all settings, so it is not necessary to configure them again.

Next time, just turn on Bluetooth on both devices and play your music, everything should be fine.

OTHER WAYS TO REPRODUCE APPLE MUSIC ON GOOGLE HOME

There are dozens of online websites that show you how to download music from Apple Music, extract its DRM and upload it to Google Drive or Google Play Music. I would suggest not doing it.

The first reason, it’s against Apple’s T&C to take its music and remove DRM. Also because, that DRM is there to guarantee the availability of music. Depending on where you live, removing DRM may also be illegal.

DOES APPLE MUSIC SUPPORT GO TO GOOGLE HOME?

There are rumors that Apple Music may soon be supported by Google Home devices. If this is true, it could mean that the two competing platforms are collaborating more to make life easier for its users.

This is good news. The owners of Google Home had some difficulties when word spread that Apple Music would appear on Amazon Echo. It seems that all companies are looking for a way to collaborate.

For now, you can play Apple Music on Google Home using Bluetooth streaming. Until Apple Music is supported by Google. Whether this actually happens or not depends only on speculation. The news has remained so for now, but until then, at least we have a way to listen to Apple Music on Google Home.
