How to Send Disappearing Texts on Instagram
There is a new feature on Instagram known as Vanish Mode which works on the app’s messaging service. The app helps you to send self-destructing texts. When you use Vanish Mode, all messages you send including media will be deleted as soon as the recipient sees it.
If you want to use Vanish mode, you first off all, need to make sure you have the latest version of Instagram installed on your device.
Next up, launch the app on your mobile device and swipe right from the left side of the screen. You can also tap the text bubble button at the top right corner of the screen. This will open a list of your direct messages on Instagram.
Tap on the person or group you would like to send a disappearing message to.
Now, perform a swipe gesture above the text box. This will activate Vanish Mode. Once this mode is enabled, your chat background will change to a darker shade and you will also notice a few other animations to show that Vanish mode has been activated.
Once you are in Vanish Mode, you can continue to chat as you normally would and send messages in the usual formats like direct stories, voice clips, and others.
The only difference this feature makes is that once you swipe up again to exit Vanish mode and the other person has read whatever you send, all those messages will be deleted.
Now, this doesn’t stop the other person from taking screenshots of the messages. However, Instagram will notify you of if and when they do.
You should also keep in mind that Instagram retains media and texts that you send while Vanish mode is enabled for as long as an hour after they have been deleted. They do this for cases where the recipient files a report for abuse and harassment and the media or text is needed to take action.
