How to Set Finder’s Default Folder on Mac

I personally believe that millions of people around the world use Mac due to its shortcut and productivity hacks. However, if you are among those who are still working on the Mac with default options, you are missing out on an awful lot in terms of productivity. One such case is the default Finder folder.

By default, the folder is set to “All My Files,” and if this is still the option selected on your Mac, you should change it right now. Not to worry, however. In this post, I will show you how to set a default Finder folder on your Mac easily.

If your work has to do with journalism or video editing and you work off your Mac, it is pretty apparent that you are more likely to launch either documents or video files respectively. Cases like this require you to change your Finder to documents or video folder on your Mac. Read on to learn more!

How to Set a Default Finder Folder on Mac

  1. First off, open Finder on your Mac.
  2. Next up, click on Finder from the menu bar and then select Preferences.
  3. Now, you need to go to the General tab under Preferences.
  4. Next, click on the drop-down arrow under New Finder windows show.
  5. Proceed to select the desired folder you wish to open in Finder by default.
