The primary Unlock option includes passwords, PIN or Pattern just in case you’re in a dark place and can’t use your Face or don’t want to use fingerprint for whatever reason.

How To Set Up Fingerprint Unlock in Huawei P20/P20 pro
- Access the Settings Menu by Swiping down the notification panel and click on the Gear Icon at the top right. Alternatively, you can click on the Settings App from the app drawer.
Once you get to the Settings Menu, Click on Security $ Password Then tap on Fingerprint ID. You’ll be required to choose and set up a primary security option like PIN, Password or Pattern. That is if you don’t already have one. Click on the one you want and set it. If you already have primary security option chosen, provide it and move on to the next step.
Once you put your existing primary security option or create a new one, you’ll be asked choose what you want to use the fingerprint unlock for. Things like Unlock screen, access safe and access app lock. Use the Toggle to turn on the ones you want.
After doing that, you can now Click on New Fingerprint to add your fingerprint. Now place your finger on the fingerprint sensor on your phone. Once you feel the phone vibrate, remove your finger and place it again. Keep doing this till completely captures your fingerprint. Remember to adjust your finger each time you place it on the sensor in order for it to capture all side of your fingerprint.
After doing that, you’ll get the success message with an option to edit the fingerprint name. You can change it to maybe “Right thumb” or “index finger” or any other name you have in mind, or you can just leave it as “Fingerprint ID 1”.
