The Portable Document Format (PDF) is simply a file format developed by Adobe in the 1990s to present documents, including text formatting and pictures, in a form independent of app software, hardware, and operating systems.

Every PDF file embodies a total description of a fixed-layout flat document, not excluding the text, fonts, vector graphics, raster pictures plus other required information to display it. PDF was standardized as ISO 32000 12 years ago, and since then, no royalties have been needed for its implementation.

In this digital era, it is very ironic that PDFs often force us back into the real world. Most times, when signing a PDF is required, we are compelled to physically print out the file, sign it with a biro and then scan it back onto your PC again. Looking at this process now, it is a clear waste of time and effort.

Fortunately for us, we now have several PDF signing applications to make our lives easier and they allow us to sign PDF documents seamlessly straight from our smartphones. Do you own an Android device or tab, a very popular signing application you should know about is the Adobe Reader and it is available for free.
