GIFs (Graphics Interchange Formats) and animation standards are becoming a hugely popular way of sharing content and reactions, especially on social media. To create a GIF in the past, you might have needed to use software like Photoshop to make animated GIFs, but it has gotten a lot easier to create nowadays.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to make a GIF from a YouTube video with a simple online tool, that is simple enough that we’ll have you making GIFs in just a few minutes.
Using GIFS.COM
- Find the youtube video you want to turn into GIF and copy its URL (could be a TEDx video)
- Open a new tab on your browser and type in ‘GIFS.COM’ in the search box. Once the home page opens, paste your copied youtube URL into the white box on the left side of the page. Normally, your video would be detected automatically, but if it fails to detect your video immediately, just click on the create option. You can also import videos by clicking the upload button.
- Next, you will need to click the timeline below the image to select the start and end time for the GIF. The blue bar below the image indicates the time period for the GIF. The longer the time of a GIF, the larger the file size and vice versa. It is important to consider the GIF file size because some social media platforms put a limit on the size of GIFS that can be uploaded. For example, Twitter has a GIF limit of 5MB on mobile devices and 15MB on the desktop.
- You can also add effects on the image, a caption, add a sticker, blurring, and padding. You can also crop the image to a suitable size.
- When you’re satisfied with the GIF, click Create Gif in the top right-hand corner. You should also note that your GIF might take time to create depending on the file size.
- The next page will give you options to add titles to your GIF, select tags, enable sound and watermark.
- On the final page, you can download, share and embed your newly created GIF.
