Everyone is getting more interested in women’s soccer and this summer’s World Cup in France is set to ensure the interest keeps increasing.
But before the almighty World Cup, the Women’s UEFA Champions League Final will take place to dazzles our eyes.
Defending champions, Olympique Lyon will battle Barcelona in Budapest, Hungary tomorrow and the two teams have players that will play for their national teams this summer in France.
Lyon has Budapest-born Dzsenifer Marozsán playing for the club, and she is an Olympic Gold medalist who featured for Germany 3 years ago and was even the captain. Dzsenifer clinched the UCL with Frankfurt four years ago and won it twice with Lyon last year and in 2024.
Lyon’s captain, Wendie Renard will be setting a new record of an 82nd UCL appearance and is also looking very good to pick another Champions League winners’ medal. That UCL gold medal will be her 6th if her team wins.

Sadly though, Lyon’s major star, Ada Hegerberg will not be at the World Cup. Ada won the inaugural Women’s Golden Ball Award last year. But, in 2024, she revealed that she was sad with how the Norwegian Football Association treated the women’s team and she has not featured in any international game since then.
This will be Lyon’s 8th appearance in the the UCL final since 2010 and the club will be attempting to lift their 4th consecutive UCL title, even if their last three victories have been tight games.
3 years ago, a penalty decider was needed to defeat Wolfsburg, then another penalty kick was needed to beat PSG in a different final. Last season, Wolfsburg was their opponent once more, and Lyon won 4-1, even if all the goals were scored after full time, in extra time.
Lyon’s opponent in this year’s final, Barcelona will hope Lieke Martens can drive them to the title. She was named Europe’s best player 2 years ago after assisting Holland to win the European Championship. England international, Toni Duggan is Barca’s top scorer in the CL this season with five goals to her name.
Kheira Hamraoui will not be able to feature for Barcelona as she is suspended. It would’ve been a special game for her as she is an ex Lyon player who moved to Spain last year.
It is also a big night for Spain as Barcelona is the first Spanish team to reach the final.
The Final, tomorrow, will be played at the Groupama Arena in Budapest, Hungary, home to Ferencváros in front of a sold-out crowd of more than twenty two thousand people. But, because of sponsorship limitations, the stadium is being called the Ferencváros Stadium by UEFA.
