How You Can Change The Google Maps Voice

Google Maps is the most used navigation app on both Android and Apple devices. But it is not the most accommodating as regards the navigator’s voice because there is just a single voice per language or dialect.

Android owners are allowed to alter the voice from inside the app, but iOS users do not have that luxury, they have to reinstall the app and alter the phone’s default language.

Android Devices

Android phones have Google Maps already installed as part of the Google bundle, alongside the Google Assistant, Chrome, Play Store, and so on. There are a couple of ways to alter the voice of the Google Maps navigation on a Android device or tab – from inside the app and by re-installing the application.

The first step is simple but the other option requires you to adjust your device’s language settings. Lets highlight how you can change the Google Maps voice on an android device or tab.

Change Google Maps Voice From Inside The App

Adhere to these steps to alter the Google Maps voice via the app’s settings:

  5. In the Navigation Settings section, click on the Voice Selection tab. The presently chosen voice of Google Maps is marked with a check mark.
  6. A list of the available languages and their regional options will be made available to you. Click on the language you desire.
  7. After that, click the Back button. It returns you to the map.
  8. Next, type in your present position into the upper text box.
  9. Type in the destination into the lower text box.
  10. Click on the Go button.
  11. Click Start and Google Maps will begin to navigate you towards the destination in your preferred voice and language.

Re–installing The App

Once installed, Google Maps derives its language settings from the phone’s language settings. Therefore, you can uninstall the app and alter the language settings on your phone or tablet instead of changing the voice via the in-app settings. Lets discuss how that can work.

  1. Delete Google Maps. If it cannot be deleted by clicking and holding the icon, uninstall it on the Google Play Store.
  2. After that, access the Settings app from the Home screen.
  3. Find the System section and click on it.
  4. In the System section, click on the Language or Language and Input tab, according to your phone.
  5. After that, Click the Language tab.
  6. A list of available languages will be visible to you. Choose the one you desire by clicking on it.
  7. Get out of Settings by clicking the Home button.
  8. Head to the Play Store.
  9. Search for the Google Maps app.
  10. Install it.
  11. Your newly installed Google Maps will use your phone’s settings as its language settings.

Apple Devices

Unlike Android phones and tablets, iOS devices do not possess Google Maps by default. But, iOS users are allowed to download and install the iOS version without paying a dime.

Also, iPhone and iPad owners cannot alter the voice of Google Maps navigation from inside the app. Instead, they uninstall the app, and change their phone’s language settings. To get this done, do this:

  1. Click on the Google Maps icon till the “X” becomes visible.
  2. Click the “X” mark.
  3. Click the Delete button.
  4. Press the Home button.
  5. Access Settings.
  6. After that, click on General.
  7. Inside the General section, click on Language & Region.
  8. Click iPhone Language or iPad Language according to your device.
  9. Choose your preferred language or the dialect you fancy. English, Spanish, and other languages are the options available.
  10. Click Done.
  11. The phone will ask if you intend to change the language. Click Change to.
  12. If the phone or tab requests that you configure Siri, click Continue and then Set up Siri Later in Settings”.
  13. Launch the App Store.
  14. Search for the Google Maps app.
  15. Click the Download icon and wait for the installation to be wrapped up.
  16. Launch Google Maps to confirm your new settings works.

It will.
