No one has an idea the name it will end up getting but Android Q is here already and its first beta is now available.

It is only a developer preview right about now though, so it is not prepared for the main work. Keep reading and lets help you help yourself.

The smartphones receiving the final Android Pie version are Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel X, Pixel 3 and Pixel 2.

In 2018, Google added non-Pixel or Nexus phones as part of its Android beta program. Even if Google is planning to extend the Android Q beta to cater for other devices, as the time of writing this, the program is restricted to only Pixels. Remain patient as that change anytime soon.

The simplest means of getting the Android Q beta is for you to get yourself enrolled in the Android Beta Program.

Just head to the Android Beta portal and opt-in to the beta, which will notify Google to send your device an over-the-air update. Your smartphone will immediately receive the newest beta and then an OTA for the final version, but this will be dependent on the timing. Alternatively, you can get the final version of Android Q.

  1. Go to the Android Beta Program portal on your Pixel device.
  2. Get yourself signed in to the Google account connected to that device.
  3. Scroll down to Your qualified devices.
  4. Locate the phone you wish to enroll in the Beta program and click Opt in.
  5. Adhere to the instructions on your smartphone to ensure the over-the-air download is accepted.

Google revealed that will take place immediately you do that:

“You may opt out of the programme at any time to return to the stable, public version of Android. If you opt out when your device is running a beta version of Android, all user data on the device will be wiped. If you choose to stay enrolled until the end of the programme, you will graduate from the programme and receive an update to the stable public release of Q. Your device will not be wiped.”
