HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – 2024 HTC budget smartphones

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – 2018 HTC budget smartphones. HTC new budget smartphones are now available to the general public. The desire series from HTC is for the mid-range market. The new Desire 12 and Desire 12 Plus offers an 18:9 aspect ratio display with some other trending specifications. And what’s good about both devices is that they’re priced less than $300. Like every other smartphone model, the HTC Desire 12 Plus is a bigger version with improved specs. And will definitely cost more than the HTC Desire 12.

So in this article, we’ll be comparing the HTC Desire 12 with the HTC Desire 12 Plus. Let’s figure out if the added features on the HTC Desire 12 Plus is worth the extra cash or maybe it’s best to stick with the HTC Desire 12.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – The Design

The design is the same as they feature a front glass with an aluminum unibody. Big difference between the HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12 Plus is the fingerprint sensor. There’s no fingerprint sensor on the HTC Desire 12, which I think is a big let down for the smartphone. While the HTC Desire 12 Plus comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. We know the HTC Desire 12 Plus is superior, but there are other departments to showcase that not on the fingerprint sensor. The HTC Desire 12 is slimmer and lighter than the HTC Desire 12 Plus. Weighing 137 grams with 8.2mm in thickness is the HTC Desire 12. While the HTC Desire 12 Plus weighs 157.5 grams and measures 8.4mm in thickness.

The HTC Desire 12 Plus features a dual rear camera while the Desire 12 features just a single rear camera. Regarding body color, the HTC Desire 12 is available in Cool Black and Warm Silver body colors. While the HTC Desire 12 Plus is available in Black, Silver, and Gold body colors. Overall, the HTC Desire 12 Plus features the better design but I still feel HTC could’ve improved with the design of the Desire 12.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – The Display

Both the HTC Desire 12 Plus and Desire 12 sports an IPS LCD panel. The display of the HTC Desire 12 features a 5.5-inch screen size, 74.2% screen-to-body ratio, an 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels resolution and 293 pixels per inch density. Whereas the display of the HTC Desire 12 Plus packs a 6.0-inch screen size, 76.7% screen-to-body ratio, an 18:9 aspect ratio, 720 x 1440 pixels resolution and 268 pixels per inch density.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – The Camera

The dual rear camera of the HTC Desire 12 consist of a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. The dual rear cameras feature bokeh mode and phase detection autofocus mode. While the HTC Desire 12’s rear camera features a 13MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, the HTC Desire 12 Plus packs an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. While the HTC Desire 12 packs a 5MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture. According to HTC, both smartphones are capable of capturing quality pictures in both day and night conditions. But am not overly impressed with their camera specs.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – Hardware and Software

This is where the HTC Desire 12 Plus clearly beats the Desire 12. Powering the HTC Desire 12 Plus is Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit and an 8-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. While the HTC Desire 12 is powered by MediaTek MT6739 chipset, PowerVR GE8100 graphics processing unit and a 4-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz.

The HTC Desire 12 Plus runs on Sense UI skin on Android 8.1 Oreo with 3GB memory and 32GB internal storage. Seriously, HTC messed up with the HTC Desire 12. The smartphone is so outdated that you wouldn’t believe it’s a 2018 device. The HTC Desire 12 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat underneath Sense UI skin with 3GB memory and 32GB internal storage or 2GB memory and 16GB storage. I wonder what was really going through the mind of HTC when they were manufacturing a 2018 smartphone with no fingerprint sensor and outdated Android software.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – The Battery

The HTC Desire 12 packs a non-removable Li-lon 2730 mAh battery while the HTC Desire 12 Plus comes with a non-removable Li-lon 2965 mAh battery. Of course, there’s no fast battery charging on both smartphones.

HTC Desire 12 Plus VS HTC Desire 12 – The Price

The HTC Desire 12 Plus is priced at around $290 (N101,500) while the HTC Desire 12 goes for about $232 (N81,200). Am not a fan of either smartphone after writing this article. But I will say the HTC Desire 12 Plus offers the better quality-price ratio. And is a far better smartphone than the HTC Desire 12.
