HTC Nexus M1 ‘Marlin’ Appears On Geekbench – Specs & Hardware Details Revealed

Google and HTC will once again partner in the production of this year’s Nexus smartphone. This partnership will be the third for both companies in the creation of a Nexus device since the release of Google’s first Nexus smartphone in 2010.

Two devices are allegedly in the works, and one of those devices just showed up on Geekbench revealing a significant part of its principal features and hardware.

The two smartphones codenamed “SAILFISH” and “MARLIN” were first sighted back in January when a report claimed that Google had chosen HTC to create the successors to last year’s Nexus 6p and 5x.

A device believed to be the MARLIN has made its way to Geekbench were most of its features and key specs have been revealed.

The smartphone which was listed as the  “Google Marlin” received a single-core score of 2,084 and a multi-core score of 4,969.

The alleged Nexus device carries a 5.5-inch 2,560 x 1,440 QHD AMOLED display and runs Google’s latest version of Android (7.0 Nougat), and will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm processor assumed to be the Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU and 4Gb of RAM.

Furthermore, the device is said to sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies.

Pricing for the device is expected to be kept in the same range as last years Nexus devices.

The devices are supposed to come unlocked and in 32GB and 128GB storage variants and, like last year’s Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the Nexus M1 will adopt a USB Type-C port instead of a micro USB.

HTC recently announced that it’s current flagship device, HTC 10, as well as last year’s flagship One M9, and One A9 will all receive an update to Android 7.0 Nougat, and while an actual release date is still to be confirmed, we hope that since Google and HTC are working closely together on two new Nexus devices, HTC gets a head start on delivering Nougat to more Nexus devices in the near future.

Like most recently rumoured devices I believe that these specs are at least 80% legit.

No word has been heard on the pricing and possible release date of either of the smartphones, but I presume that we will be seeing these new Nexus device before the end of the 3rd quarter of the year.

  1. “before the end of the first quarter of the second half of the year.” Why not just say before the end of the 3rd quarter of the year
