The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the latest device from Huawei. You can call it the successor of the Huawei Mate 10 smartphone that was launched in 2024. This phone comes with upgraded features both on the design and hardware. It packs a notch up front with small bezels and other goodies you will love to have on a new phone. We will be comparing the Huawei Mate 10 with the Huawei Mate 20 in this post.

Huawei Mate 10 VS Huawei Mate 20 – Design Comparison

The Huawei Mate 20 comes with a modern and beautiful design. The phone is built with Aluminium and glass material. It has body dimensions of 77.2 mm x 158.2 mm x 8.3 mm and it weighs 188 gram. The Huawei Mate 10, on the other hand, is built with an Aluminium and metal. The device has body dimensions of 77.8 mm x 150.5 mm x 8.2 mm and it weighs 186 gram. The major changes on the Huawei Mate 20 are the panel that house triple cameras with a fingerprint scanner and the notch up front. The bezels on the front have also been reduced. The similarities between both phones are the fingerprint scanner and they are both protected from dust and water.

The Huawei Mate 10 has a screen size of 5.9 inches under IPS, LCD capacitive touchscreen with screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 Pixels and 498 PPI density. The Huawei Mate 20 has a larger screen size of 6.53 inches FHD+ under RGBW IPS capacitive touchscreen with screen resolution of 1080 x 2244 Pixels and 381 PPI density. Both phones are protected with a corning gorilla glass and on the overall screen, the Huawei Mate 20 had a higher screen to body ratio and it will offer sharper screen than it’s rival.

On the camera department, the Huawei Mate 10 has rear dual cameras of 12 Megapixel + 20 Megapixels while the Huawei Mate 20 has a triple rear camera of 12MP + 16MP+8MP.
The secondary camera features an ultra wide angle while the third is the telephoto lens. For selfies, the Huawei Mate 10 has a front camera of 8 Megapixels with F2.0 Aperture, Leica Camera, 26mm Focal Length, and CMOS Sensor whereas the Huawei Mate 20 has a front camera of 24 Megapixels with F2.0 Aperture, CMOS BSI Sensor, and Face recognition.
The differences on the camera are the triple sensor on the Mate 20 which will capture beautiful photos than it’s rival and on the front, the Huawei Mate 20 is the only one that supports Face ID.

Both phones are equipped with Huawei own chipset. The Huawei Mate 10 has a Huawei Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset while the Mate 20 has the latest Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. The Mate 10 has ARM Mali G72 MP12 12-Cores GPU with 4GB/6GB while the Mate 20 has ARM Mali-G76 MP10 GPU with 4GB/6GB of RAM as well. On the storage, the Huawei Mate 10 is available in 64GB and 128GB while the Huawei Mate 20 is available in 128GB.
You can still expand the memory with micro SD card on the Mate 10 while the Mate 20 only support Nano SD card. Another notable difference between the phones is the operating system. The Mate 10 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo while the Mate 20 runs on Android 9.1 Pie.

The Huawei Mate 10 and the Mate 20 has the same battery capacity of 4000 mAh with fast charging technology. It’s only the Mate 20 that supports wireless charging technology.

Our Verdict:

From the price above, you will notice that the Mate 20 is $100 ahead of the Mate 10 which shows that the phone is more powerful than the later. Nevertheless, the Mate 10 will also offer smooth performance and if you are not a tech geek, you won’t notice any differences between the phones in real life. The camera on the Mate 20 and the wireless charging is the only major features you won’t get on the Mate 10. The hardware difference is not much.
