In about a month or two the successor of the iPad 2018 is probably in the store. But what can we expect from this? An overview.

Our iPad 2019 expectations in a row
The iPad 2019 will be the successor to the iPad 2018 that appeared last March in March. A new entry-level iPad and the small cheaper brother of the iPad Pro 2018. Apple is expected to unveil the tablet at the same time as the iPad mini 2019 during the first keynote of the year, around March 2019. These are our expectations for the iPad 2019.
1. A slightly more modern design
The iPad Pro set a new standard for the design of the iPad at the end of last year. With a borderless screen and Face ID appears the new Pro, especially on a larger iPhone X. For the iPad 2019 that is too much to ask.
To keep the price low, Apple would slightly modify the design of the iPad 2018. This makes the tablet look more modern, but certain functions remain like the ‘old’ iPads. We do hope that the iPad looks more like the iPad Pro, with the hard edges and the more square appearance.
2. Larger screen, narrower edges
Because there is also a new iPad mini arriving, Apple is going to make the screen of this iPad 2019 a bit bigger than its predecessor. This is because the screen edges become narrower, leaving more room for the display.
Do not expect a huge change in format as was the case with the iPad Pro, but a small increase that makes the screen bigger, while the size of the housing remains the same.
3. Touch ID and no Face ID
For the time being, Face ID remains exclusively for the iPhone and iPad Pro; the iPad 2019 will not change that. In order to keep the price low and to adjust the design to a minimum, this iPad probably still sticks to the old-fashioned fingerprint scanner. Just like the new iPad mini, Apple has two ‘entry-level iPads’ with Touch ID and a more expensive copy with Face ID.
4. Apple Pencil 2 support
The new Apple Pencil that Apple unveiled at the same time as the iPad Pro 2018 is in all respects an improved version of the original.
It would be very strange if this accessory was not supported by the new iPad 2019. This would mean that the first generation Pencil no longer works on the new iPad, what people who use the iPad 2018 would commit to a new drawing pen to buy.
You can charge the new Pencil wirelessly by clicking it on the side of the iPad. You can also tap on the side to select context-sensitive options. For example, in a drawing app, you can quickly switch between two colors, without having to touch the screen.
5. Smart Connector
The big lack of the iPad 2018 was the Smart Connector, the convenient connection on the side and back of the iPad Pro where you can connect accessories. This is especially important for the keyboard because it allows you to start typing without a Bluetooth connection, does not have to charge the keyboard separately and is directly attached to the iPad itself. For the iPad 2019 to be a solution for students and students, such support for a good keyboard is indispensable to us.
6. Usb-c instead of Lightning
Last year, Apple took a big step by exchanging the Lightning port of the iPad Pro 2018 for a USB-c connection. This year the company would be testing the same switch for the iPhone, which clearly shows that the time of this connection is coming to an end.
We would not be surprised if the iPad 2019 switched to USB-c, a connection that enables faster charging and simplifies the connection of the tablet to an external screen and other accessories. The only drawback is that old Lightning cables, and associated adapters no longer work with this iPad.
7. Available in March for a higher price
If the rumors are correct, we do not have to wait that long for this new iPad. Just like last year, the tablet would be unveiled in March 2019 during the first Apple keynote of the year. There we also get to see the new iPad mini, new AirPods and more.
Due to the custom design, larger screen, and new specs, the price would go up slightly according to an analyst, although it is not yet known what the price would be in that case.
