iPhone Alarm does not work? See how to solve

When the iPhone alarm does not work or does not sound, you may sleep so much from not going to work, school, etc. While it may seem like an easy problem to solve, there may actually be several reasons why your iPhone’s alarm does not work.

Even if you’ve already tried some things, like increasing the volume of your iPhone ‘s alarm clock, go through the following methods, which are ordered for ease of use. Start from the top and try every solution, testing the alarm clock after each one to see if the alarm sounds again.

Turn up the volume

This may seem obvious, but don’t skip this step. It is actually possible to raise the volume with the buttons on the side of the phone without actually increasing the volume of the alarm. This is because the iPhone allows you to control two completely different sets of sounds with the same buttons.

For example, if you have an open music streaming app, using the buttons will control that volume instead of the alarm volume. This means that if the alarm volume is low or off (even if the music volume is high), you will get a silent alarm in return.

Go to Settings > Sounds or Settings > Sounds and make sure the RING AND WARNINGS is set to a reasonable volume. Here too there is the option Change with buttons, which you should disable if you want to make sure that the volume of the ringtone and the alarm never change when you change the system volume with the buttons.

To test the sound without waiting for the alarm to go off, open Clock > Alarm, tap Edit and select an alarm. Go to Sound and choose a ringtone from the list; if you can hear it, it should work perfectly when the alarm actually sounds.

Restart your iPhone

Restarting is a common practice with technology to solve small problems and you can do the same with your iPhone to see if it solves an alarm that doesn’t work.

To restart your iPhone, hold down the power button until the shutdown cursor appears or hold down the power button while holding down the volume down button. The method you need to use depends on your iPhone model.

Choose a stronger alarm sound

Some of the iPhone’s alarm sounds are quieter than others, so if you have one chosen – and especially if the alarm volume is not high, you may not hear it play. Something else to pay attention to is to make sure that Nobody is not chosen as an alarm sound, for obvious reasons.

Change the iPhone alarm sound from the Clock app. Open the Alarm tab, tap Edit, then choose the alarm for which you want to change the audio. Go to Sound and preview the ringtones or songs to find something you think will work for you.

Check the alarm time settings

If the alarm sounds but is silent, this method will not help you. However, for iPhone alarms set in the app but not turned off at the designated time, the correct time or day may not have been set.

For example, if the alarm should go off every day at 12:15 PM, and it worked yesterday but no, it is very likely that the alarm clock is not set to be repeated.

Click Edit in the section Alarm app clock, then tap the alarm that you need to change. Access the repeat settings and make sure there is a checkmark next to the days of the week for when you want the alarm to go off. Just touch a day to enable or disable the alarm for that day.

If the alarm sounds at the wrong time during the day, most likely you have confused AM and PM, it is easy to do so. Edit the alarm and change it to the appropriate time of day and be sure to tap Save when done.

Disable or change the bedtime function

If the bedtime function is enabled on your iPhone and the alarm time is set to the same time as another alarm clock, neither may work. To avoid this conflict between alarms, change the time to go to sleep or your alarm.

To find the bedtime settings on your phone, open Clock and tap Time to go to bed at the bottom. You can disable the time of bed here or slide the bell icon to another time.

Delete and restore the alarm

For whatever reason, the iPhone may not have created the alarm correctly. Or maybe it worked for a while but then stopped due to a technical problem or incompatibility after an iOS update.

Open the Clock app in the Alarm tab and swipe left to delete alarms or go to Edit first and then tap the red buttons minus to find the Delete option. You can create new iPhone alarms with the plus button in the top right corner of the Clock app.

Only use an alarm clock

If you have more than one app that can trigger alarms, you may have problems. Stick to the default iPhone alarm clock app or disable it completely and use something else.

However, please note that third-party wake-up apps are not integrated into your iPhone like the integrated one. This means that most likely you will need to keep open the app so the alarm sounds, as well as use the volume of the system (not the ring) to adjust the sound of the alarm.

For example, if the alarm does not emit any sound in the third-party app, open the app (so that it is visible and on the screen) and then use the volume buttons to raise it. This will ensure that the volume of the app is high enough to be heard regardless of the volume of the iPhone ringtone.

If disabling third-party alarms has not solved the iPhone alarm sound problem, delete them completely, restart the phone and then try using the pre-installed alarm again.

Disable Bluetooth and disconnect the headphones

The iPhone alarms should sound through the phone’s speakers and not via Bluetooth devices or headphones. However, this may not always be the case.

If your phone has a software bug or behaves erratically, it may try to play the alarm through those devices if they are actively connected to your iPhone while the alarm is sounding.

Depending on how you have configured the volume and ringtone settings and where these accessories are located when the alarm sounds, you may not hear anything.

Turn off Bluetooth from Settings > Bluetooth and disconnect anything connected to the headphone jack. If the alarm works after doing these things, then be fully aware of when your alarms will go off and make sure your audio accessories are not connected to your phone during that time.

Update the iPhone software

Many users with audio alarm problems on iPhone use an outdated version of iOS. There may be a software bug in the phone that was only fixed by an Apple update.

Update your phone wirelessly via Settings > General > Software update or connect it to your computer and update it with iTunes. In either case, be sure to use the most up-to-date firmware version.

Restore your iPhone to factory default settings

This should be the last thing you should do to solve the alarm problem that doesn’t sound on the iPhone because when you reset your iPhone, you are eliminating everything that has been installed or modified on it since it was first purchased. In the process, it should also solve any alarm problems.

Restoring your iPhone’s factory settings restores everything, so it’s often a solution to any software problem. However, it is particularly useful if your phone is jailbreak because, with the thousands of changes you can apply to an iPhone jailbreak, it is common for them to interfere with normal functions such as the alarm clock.

Before deleting the settings and data of your iPhone, I suggest you make an iPhone backup using this complete guide!
