Several years ago, when Apple launched the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, it introduced a new hardware feature in the form of 3D Touch that brought pressure-sensitive displays to smartphones. It looked promising in theory, but it was quickly shown that it was more exciting in theory than in practice.

So much so that we had already heard that Apple wanted to eliminate the functionality on its 2019 iPhones. It turns out that the rumors were true because while Apple didn’t really talk about eliminating 3D Touch at its iPhone event, but a quick look at the specifications of the new iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max smartphones, 3D Touch seems to have disappeared.
Instead, Apple lists all phones as Haptic Touch. For those not familiar, Haptic Touch is Apple’s new approach to 3D Touch. The function was originally introduced on the iPhone XR in 2024 while iPhone XS and XS Max continued to use the 3D Touch.

For the most part, both features are similar, they do more or less the same job, that of providing tactile feedback to users, with the main difference that 3D Touch recognizes the various pressure levels while Haptic Touch practically only supports long pressure.
Not surprisingly, the functionality has been eliminated. Although it was an interesting feature, the fact that users were unaware of which apps supported or not supported 3D Touch put users in a confused state, with the result that people completely ignored this feature.
