As you may already know, the new LG G6 was announced on the 26th of this month at the Mobile World Congress 2017 currently going on in Barcelona. Before then, a lot of details had leaked about the LG G6 and what we saw yesterday is just as the leaks told us. LG had come a long way from the LG G5 released about the same time last year, a lot of changes was made to the LG G6 from what was offered from the G5.
Taking a look at the body and design, the G6 now uses both metal and glass for its body materials, kind of what Samsung had been doing for a few years now with the Galaxy S series. The aluminum has no paint overlay unlike what we saw in the G5. The edges of the phone are rounded just so it could fit nice when held. although it does not seem as thin as the S7 or the iPhone, it’s still very ok. It is waterproofed There is a headphone jack, no physical buttons as usual on an LG device and the fingerprint reader just below the dual camera setup at the back of the phone just like the G5. There is no Modular design like the G5 and also no removable battery. The device also has a taller screen which we would get into later but overall looking at the phone at first, the phone looks very nice and attractive.
On the display aspect, the screen is much bigger at 5.7-inch and has an aspect ratio of 18:9(2:1) instead of the usual 16:9 which was on the LG G5. The G6 is the first smartphone to come with this type of display not forgetting that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is also expected to also feature the same aspect ratio for its display. What this means is that the screen looks taller than normal. but then LG has made the bezels of the phone very thin so the overall size of the device is even slightly smaller than the G5 with a 5.3-inch screen. The display type is IPS-LCD and it has a resolution of 1440 x 2880 pixels and 564 PPI pixel density which translates to a very sharp display. The corners of the screen are rounded as this is to reduce the impact on the screen in case you G6 gets involved in an accident. And when I say accident I mean like you phone slipping off your hands to fall and not what you might be imagining right now.
Moving on! The G6 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor on board, and even if there is a new more powerful Snapdragon processor, the Galaxy S8 is reported to be the very first phone to ship with it. The G6 also packs 4GB of RAM which should be just enough and 32GB of internal memory. Both lenses of the Camera are 13MP each, there is no OIS on the wide or normal angle (both shooting mode of the G6, so Digital Image Stabilization is used instead. In front is a 5MP selfie camera.
Also, The LG G6 will come with a Hi-Fi Quad DAC ‘OR’ Wireless Charging. yeah, there is two variants of the G6, one with high-class audio tech with Hi-Fi Quad DAC which would be sold in Asia and LG’s home, Korea, while the other with stressless wireless charging would ship to the US. it is uncertain which of the variants would ship to Africa but most possible the former. While also having a 3,300mAh battery which like I earlier said is not removable. it’s quite big but not yet certain how long it would last.
Android 7.1 nougat is what powers the G6 having LG’s UI on top of it. no much difference in its appearance from last year G5, but all the Android 7.1 are on board. the LG G6 is also the first non-Google device to come with Google Assistant AI No news yet on when the G6 would get to Nigeria or how much it would cost.
