LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – Specs Comparison

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The LG V-series are not doing bad in the high-end smartphone category. The 2017 LG V30 has good qualities to challenge most best phones in the market. LG V30 is the successor of 2016 LG V20. In this article, this smartphone will be going against Google’s very own Pixel 2 XL. The Google Pixel 2 which came out in 2024 has two versions – Pixel 2 & Pixel XL. But for the purpose of this article only the Pixel 2 XL specs will battle that of LGV30.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The Design

The design of both smartphones are not far from each other. They’re both slightly curved around its edges. With the Google Pixel 2 XL having a 7.9mm thickness that is 0.6mm bigger than that of LG V30. The LG V30 at 7.3mm thickness is more comfortable and sleek to hold.

The Google Pixel 2 XL comes with a stereo front-facing speakers that you won’t see on the LG V30. But instead, the LGV30 has a one mounted speaker on the bottom edge. The body casing of Google Pixel 2 XL is wrapped up in aluminum with a front glass and partial back glass. While that of LG V30 comes with a front and back glass, cased in an oxide metal.

Both phones are water and dust resistant. But the LG V30 have the capability to stay up to 30 minutes in 1.5 meter depth of water thanks to its IP68 rating. Google Pixel 2 XL can also survive in water for 30 minutes, only in 1 meter depth of water as it has an IP67 rating. Personally, i won’t recommend trying such resistant with these smartphones.

The LG V30 comes with a dual rear camera positioned in the top-middle with a LED flash placed by the right-side of the camera. While the Google Pixel 2 XL single-camera is at the top-left corner. And instead comes with a dual-LED flash. Google kept it simple in terms of the colors of Pixel 2 XL. It has white, black and just black. While LG V30 comes in Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue, Lavender Violet and Raspberry Rose. If you’re not a fan of heavy smartphone, then you should stay away from Google Pixel 2 XL. As it weighs 175 grams. Instead you should go for LG V30 which weighs 158 grams.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The Display

It gets interesting in this category. Both phones features 6-inch P-OLED capacitive touchscreen. The “P” which stands for plastic, makes the screen more flexible. You think it’s a coincidence? Then what about both phones having a 1440 x 2880 pixels resolution with 538 ppi density. They have both ditched their bezels, with a small amount of black bars around the top and bottom end.

There is virtually little difference on display between both smartphones. Except the screen-to-body ratio where the LG V30 is at 81.2% compared to 76.4% of Google Pixel 2 XL.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The Camera

LG made sure the one of the main attraction of V30 was the picture quality. So you shouldn’t be surprised to see it has a dual rear camera. The primary is a 16-mega pixel camera with f/1.6 aperture, alongside a glass lens built to sharpen colors. The secondary 13-mega pixel camera with f/1.9 features a 120-degree field of view for wide-angle snaps. The Google Pixel 2 XL doesn’t even come close here. With a single 12.2-mega pixel camera with f/1.8 aperture with dual-LED flash.

With its focus on photography, the LG V30 comes with a front 5-mega pixel with f/2.2 aperture. While the Google Pixel 2 XL is equipped with a 8-megal pixel with f/2.4 aperture. The LG V30 with better aperture, will take better selfie shots in low-light conditions. Google even with better pixel, obviously don’t care about the picture quality with a f/2.4 aperture.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – Hardware and Software

Both phones have the same option of in-built storage which is 64GB. And then a random-access memory (RAM) of 4GB. Google Pixel 2 XL runs on the latest version of Android, version 8.0 (Oreo). While the LG V30 doesn’t feature the latest operating system. Instead, it runs on Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) which is now Incorporated with LG’s interface modifications.

The Google Pixel 2 XL and LG V30 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset with Octa-core 2.3GHz processor.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The Battery

This may actually be the only category, Google Pixel 2 XL beats the LG V30. The Pixel 2 XL comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 3520 mAh battery. Which will last longer than the non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh battery on LG V30. It still doesn’t mean the LG V30 won’t last long on heavy usage.

LG V30 VS Google Pixel 2 XL – The Price

You can get the LG V30 at around $750 (N262,500). While the Google Pixel 2 XL goes for about $1,050 (N367,500). In my opinion, the LG V30 is much more better than Google Pixel 2 XL. And you get to safe about $300 (N105,000). LG V30 is still regarded as one of the best smartphones.
